  • WSU vs Dixie State (3/5-3/7)

Dixie State got their asses handed to them in a four game series against Washington State:

    Game 1: 3-6
    Game 2: 5-19
    Game 3: 1-15
    Game 4: 3-10

Now it's time for them to get their asses handed to them by the other WSU.

    Game 3 ESPN+ - Live Stats

I am surprised they haven't been cancelled and told to change the name of their school.

Dixie State huh. Are Wedge and Hibbs reliving the scheduling from those old 80+ game seasons?

Doesn't seem like the best prep prior to the series with Arizona then again maybe it is.

The strange thing about the name is that Dixie State is in Utah, and there were no slaves in Utah. The name came about because they grew a lot of Cotton in the area just as in the South. But just as Redskins wasn't a bad name when it started, it is now. It's kind of strange that we throw out history (stories of the past) and it's context because the modern context has changed. Lincoln, Washington (the State, and District), Georgetown U., etc, will all be gone.

I don't want to start a new thread for this dumb question but ... why are baseball rosters so large?

Well there are 8 position players (not counting the picher) plus a DH. If you go only 2 deep that is 18 players. Plus you need a boatload of pitchers to get through a season. Maximum active roster is 35 players which is set before the 1st game of the year. Once it is set you can't add to it. The Shocks list 41 players their rosters. So 6 of those guys are either redshirting this year or no longer on the team. Not sure which 6 are not on the active roster but so far the Shocks have played 14 position players and 14 pitchers. That leaves 13 players. 7 of whom could be on the roster. Which 7 that is I don't know. 6 of those 13 are not on the active roster. Doesn't mean all 35 guys on the roster will play this year but they are available if needed and healthy.

In game 1 of the 3-game series the Shocks are up 1-0 after 3. That probably qualifies as a slow start against Dixie State. However, Dixie State was competitive against the other Washington State in their opener losing 3-6. After that they pretty much got crushed giving up 44 runs in 3 games to Wazoo. Not uncommon programs like Dixie State to have one quality starter in their fold.

Jimmy Borzone pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in that opening game for Dixie State allowing only 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 and Borzone is on the mound for Dixie State today. Liam Eddy on the mound for the Shocks.

Shocks played small ball to produce a run in the 1st. Jack Sigrist singled stole second and score on a Paxton Wallace Sac Fly.

A walk and a single put Dixie runners at 1st and 2nd with not outs in the top of the 4th. LIam gets a strike out and the an unassisted double play by Jack Sigrist at second base on a line drive.

The play at third is close. I think if the third base ump says his foot landed on the bag then the runner is out by just a hair. Hard to tell where his foot landed.

Shane said something earlier...have we not had a shortstop yet to record a hit? If so, yikes!

Correct, they’ve walked several times but no hits. Has tried Clemons, Elliot, and Stewart.
