They've each been featured on "Food Wars" and have plenty of videos on YouTube. A third place, Black's BBQ, is also supposed to be great.

I've only been to Smitty's, but I have to say it was an awesome experience. Hands down the greatest smoked sausages on the planet.

If its on par with Dreamland BBQ in Mobile I think I can talk the other two making the trip into stopping at both or all three. What do you say guys?

I am way ahead of you, I already have them on a spreadsheet.

Fellas - the best bbq in Texas is right here in Austin (regardless of what you'll read about Lockhart). It's called Franklin BBQ. Started out as a trailer (big food trailer scene here) - but has since moved to a brick & mortar joint on 11th street (just East of Downtown).

I will add that to the list and we will take it in. There may be way too much eating and not enough baseball time when we hit there!

Don't miss Meyers Elgin Smokehouse on 290 East out of Austin. World renown hot links and sausage.

I am afraid with all of this eating we may miss the games!

No worries - you can get Meyers sausage at the grocery store, put it in the cooler, and bring it back to KS for a later date. No need to drive to Elgin for it.

27, you nailed it. I've spent enough time in Texas to eat plenty of barbecue there over the years. I visited Franklin's in Austin recently after reading about it -- and then went back to make sure -- and it has moved to the top of my list, which I would not have thought possible. Great, great food, and Aaron Franklin, the owner, is about the friendliest guy you'll ever meet behind a counter, too. A writer from Bon Appetit calls it the best in America, and a book and website called "The Fearless Critic," which reviews all kinds of restaurants in the Austin area (a wonderful restaurant city) ranks it third overall in town, behind two notable fine dining places, and first among barbecue restaurants. Do not miss it -- it's better than the famous places in Lockhart, and you don't have to go out of your way to get there (as compared to visiting Lockhart, which takes you farther east of San Marcos than you'd expect).

Where will the official before and after weigh-in for this trip be held?

Don't forget the Salt Lick way out in the middle of nowhere. On more of baseball note, can we move the baseball season up a month? I'm sure the weather we've had to start the year will be better than what we have in a month. Crazy to think we're a month away. GO SHOX!

This could be a big problem, I went on a diet the day after Thanksgiving and have dropped almost 35 lbs. I don't need to go down to Texas and ruin all of the hard work that I have put in on this weight loss.

WOW, so many good places to eat down there. I may have to eat 5 or 6 meals a day while we are there.

I am sure none of this food is fattening.
