Fellas - the best bbq in Texas is right here in Austin (regardless of what you'll read about Lockhart). It's called Franklin BBQ. Started out as a trailer (big food trailer scene here) - but has since moved to a brick & mortar joint on 11th street (just East of Downtown).Last edited by shox27; January 4, 2012, 08:39 AM.

27, you nailed it. I've spent enough time in Texas to eat plenty of barbecue there over the years. I visited Franklin's in Austin recently after reading about it -- and then went back to make sure -- and it has moved to the top of my list, which I would not have thought possible. Great, great food, and Aaron Franklin, the owner, is about the friendliest guy you'll ever meet behind a counter, too. A writer from Bon Appetit calls it the best in America, and a book and website called "The Fearless Critic," which reviews all kinds of restaurants in the Austin area (a wonderful restaurant city) ranks it third overall in town, behind two notable fine dining places, and first among barbecue restaurants. Do not miss it -- it's better than the famous places in Lockhart, and you don't have to go out of your way to get there (as compared to visiting Lockhart, which takes you farther east of San Marcos than you'd expect).
