Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but according to the above information, players recruited from outside of Kansas
are substantially more expensive (by a factor of 2.7) than their in-state counterparts.
So, if that is the case, how is it a bad thing to require more in-state recruiting?
Seems like it would be an advantage to recruit more in-staters and thus leave more money available to be used for the out-of-staters, wouldn't it?

Well, yes, triple -- all things being equal. The problem is that all things aren't equal. Kansas can't fully stock a team as good as we want WSU to be, especially given that WSU isn't the only alternative for Kansas kids.
The real key is how many championship caliber players Kansas produces who will go to college instead of signing pro (especially Kansas outside of Johnson County, which is highly parochial and barely knows Wichita exists). Having a whole bunch of guys who are cheap but aren't good enough produces undesirable results on the field, which is what it's really all about.
