Here's the three main reasons in my book Krusty needs to go in addition to the program slipping:

        1. The Oklahoma debacle and how he just kinda forced his way back here after he realized he screwed up.
        2. His off field conduct and friendship with a pedophile.
        3. The fact that any draft able player that we have jumps at the pros more so than any other school, no matter what round they seem to be taken in.

I'd rather have a pedo be friends with Gene than with an 8 year old.

I think all of this talk of firing Gene is just plain crazy.

I love Kevin Hooper but the guy has not been a head college baseball coach anywhere. He has never recruited a single player. I think he would be too green to be the head coach at WSU.

Besides his "pro team" struggled against division 2 Kansas Newman this past week. ;-)
Krusty needs to go, and I may be in the minority, but I hope we would get someone not affiliated in any way whatsoever with the Gene Stephenson era.

Nothing against Hibbs or Hoop, but I would love to see someone like Rob Walton or the coach at Coastal Carolina take the reigns.

Really, why couldn't we make a run at this guy?

I propose that we don't go after another coach with a moustache.

So tell him to shave as part of his contract.

                      Very unlikely IMO...

"Coastal Carolina is a special place for me," Gilmore concluded. "We're fortunate to have things pretty good down here with the location and the weather, but it's the people who make this place great. From the players and coaches and the athletic department, to the professors, students and staff, everybody just comes together to form a family. There are a lot of other schools out there that are bigger and may have more money to throw around, but they can't match the intangibles that we have here. My heart is in this program because I sweated on the same exact field that today's kids are sweating on for me."

didn't want to support this thread but.... yeah, time for Gene to go. WSU so needs some new life and to rebuild.

No offense, but I would believe it when he tells us no.

It's time for Dr. Beggs to get involved. This is unacceptable.

It would be nice if the last 3 seasons were enough to convince Gene it is time to hang 'em up and enjoy his retirement. With next year looking to be even worse than this year (perhaps much worse), maybe Gene will decide to step aside.

Unfortunately, I don't think his ego will allow him to see the light and absent him being convicted of a felony I don't see him being fired.

We could be stuck with him for another three years (his current contract expires June 30, 2014).

Unfortunately, as his contract winds down he becomes more and more of a lame duck and his legacy increasingly tarnished.

                              :(

                                Silliness

I'm not pleased with this season either. But I'm not sure how it's Stephenson's fault that Cale Elam, who has been nails in pretty much every appearance, couldn't get anyone out tonight. This sort of thing happens in the major leagues to closers making millions of dollars, too -- not often, but it hasn't happened often to Elam either.

It's called baseball, and sometimes in baseball excrement happens.
