Hey, what do you know, another base hit when a hitter is in the hole 0-2....haven't seen that oh, more than 30-40 times this year.

TJ and Elam do the job in the 8th. Tied 6-6 going to the ninth.

2 years in row with no post-season. In reality there has been 3 years of crappy shocker baseball (it was fluke they made it 3 years ago because of the stupid valley and Ed Servais choosing a stupid format).

It look like next year there can be no expectation of anything good happening. That would be 4 YEARS of crappy, frustrating WSU baseball. We are nearing half-decade. How far will this AD let this program slip before pulling the trigger?

WSU's RPI the last 3 seasons:

          2009- 99
          2010- 62
          2011- 80

One year to rebuild and reload following 07-08 was an easy sell. Unfortunately, it looks like we forgot to do either.

Jim Thomas should have been moved along years ago. 14 strikeouts against anyone is UNACCEPTABLE. The approach we take at the plate is TERRIBLE, just TERRIBLE.

Losing year after year in a crappy league is UNACCEPTABLE.

We all should congratulate Gene for everything he's done and build a shrine to him. The game has passed him by, and frankly he's embarrassed the University with his personal antics and the OU thing (which he should NEVER had been allowed to return from).

Coach Thomas needs to go to Brent and apologize for costing him about 5 Valley titles.

Pull the trigger before it's too late....and it may be too late already.

Embarrassing and unacceptable, but totally expected.

Gene, we love you, but PLEASE STEP DOWN NOW. You're getting MURDERED out there.

As much as it pains me to do it, I will not be renewing my season tickets until a change is made. When a change is made, I will purchase 2 more additional season tickets than I have the previous 18 years (8 to 10).

My baseball budget will immediately go to Volleyball.

I love what Gene has done, and I 100% respect his accomplishments, but he's had his chance. When you lose to Illinois State, Missouri State and Creighton, it's time to step down.

This is the only way change is going to happen...hitting them where it hurts: right in the pocketbook.

My season tickets are dunzo as well.

People are crazy if you think Eric Sexton has the balls to fire Gene, its just not his personality.

If I had season tickets, I would cancel them. Instead, I will go to a couple games next year because my little boys love to go. I will go for them. Winning, losing, national prominence, missing the CWS for 15 years means little to them. They love to go to baseball games. I will go for them, likely on nights when tickets are cheap.

Maybe I should write a letter to ADES thanking him for helping with the family budget.

good idea on a thank you letter to the AD.

i've saved a ton of money the last couple of years by

not wasting it on Shockers baseball.

For the first year in my memory, I didn't follow Shocker baseball. I didn't listen on the radio and didn't follow the baseball threads.

I watched the game tonight (Valley championship tourney) and got a great reminder of why that's the only game I paid attention to all year.

CU has a better pitching staff late in a tourney than WSU?? CU has a better fielding team than WSU?? CU has a team that executes better than WSU??

It's obvious WSU's players can hit. They do it every summer.

Firing Gene is out of the question. It's not going to happen - yet. Convincing him to retire will never happen. The best we can hope for is that there is no extension of his current contract. Maybe if Gene sees an end to his contract, he might snap out of it and start coaching the way he can instead of the way he has the last several years.

I know we don't want to discuss it or admit it was a problem, but Gene's recruiting hit the skids after the Christiansen fiasco. A lot of players and parents didn't want to be involved with WSU. Then the OU deal probably messed with Gene's head and he may have picked up an "at this level" mentality.

The recruits that sign with WSU all tell us that Gene is the reason they chose WSU. The recruits that don't sign with us don't tell us that WSU has a pretty bad reputation and that Gene is blamed for that.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Unfortunately, that was the case for me as well. The lack of recent success and program excitement caused me to lose interest. I watched a few games on the computer in the tournament, but didn't even bother to listen to the last half of last night's game.

Been a Shocker loyalist since the days of Joe Carter, but never have I felt the way about the program that I have the last few years...and I am not the only one.

It's a long damn time until late November (roughly 6 months) when basketball begins.

I voted with my feet and money (tickets) after GS's off field shenanigans become public and I am sad at the present condition of the program. I do know a significant segment of the big money is upset but how upset I do not know. I suspect we'll see how upset in the coming weeks to months...

                                I agree.

I don't think this will happen. Gene basically showed us his cards with the OU job flirtation. He pretty much told us then that he does not believe he can win big at WSU anymore.

The best scenario would be for Gene to retire next week. I don't think that will happen. ADES needs to convey to Gene now that his contract will not be renewed after the 2014 season. He may, of course, choose to resign at any time. Ideally he would announce his retirement at the beginning of his final season. Give him a chance to have a farewell tour and accolades and gives ADES a head start on finding his replacement.

Unfortunately, as Doc and others have stated the only real way to send a message that won't or can't be ignored is to withhold financial support. Too bad that has to happen.
