I can promise you that Eric does indeed have the stones to fire anyone when finances reach a tipping point.

It needs to be done asap before Gene runs what he built into the ground.I have respect for Gene but the time has come.

I don't think Gene should be fired. However, ADES needs to start building a succession plan and instruct Gene to discharge JT and replace him with some one that will become the HC in 3-5 years.

Gene is a loyal guy with a big ego. He won't fire JT unless instructed, and his ego is too big to resign. ADES needs to get involved and discharge the main reason for the lethargy and mediocrity of the WSU program which is JT.

You and I have been on the same page for a couple of years regarding the baseball program, however, I don't see anyone with the qualifications, experience, and reputation to be able to re-build this program willing to put up with Krusty's bs for 3-5 years. As long as Gene is in the dugout, it now appears that the program will likely suffer. Frankly, any mid-major, cold weather school does not have the luxury of that kind of time before getting a fresh start on re-building. This program is in a hole and each year that hole is getting deeper. A Big XII team can lean on its conference affiliation to help it rebound. With the MVC, its another lead weight around WSU's neck.

Yes, JT needs to be gone, but several of us thought that should have happened several years ago. Back then, your idea would have worked. The ball program needs new blood ASAP. If ADES doesn't see the urgency to act, then the potential demise of a great program will be part of his legacy.

Gene didn't ask J.S. to take him back, he went over his head to the President because I think he knew what J.S. would have said. J.S. was probably kicking himself for not announcing Krusty replacement that day.
So are you saying that the decision regarding Gene's future is not in the AD's hands?

I don't know who has the power today. All I'm saying is it was reported that gene called the president and not schaus to ask to return. I alway figured that was because he knew schaus wouldn't take him back.

Well, even if he did go to the Prez, I hope the Prez realizes things have changed since the last time. The program has slipped even further into the abyss.

As I recall the story at the time. Gene tried to call JS but couldn't reach him (I think he was on vacation at the time). So that is why he supposedly called Beggs.

Last night's game was a huge embarrasment. Until last night this team at least lost while putting up a fight. Most of their many losses this year have been by one or two runs. Last night's loss reminded me of some of the other awful losses the last couple of seasons (like at Arizona or at UNL last year).

I hope the team feels embarrassed. Because they should. Maybe Ku was totally embarrassed by the 22-7 beating we put on them last year and came for revenge.

I did notice Ku wore white pants last night. Apparently they have given in to the Shox thinking on the subject. ;-)

Chris Wimmer called into the Sports Daily show this morning. From his comments, it was clear that this is a player(s) problem.

Perhaps a younger asst. coach is needed. Always good to hear from those who made this program great. If they have an interest in teaching how to be great, it needs to be explored.

I am confused. Who recruited the players?

Isn't a players problem automatically a coaching issue?

No. If a guy's focus is on impressing scouts and garnering a pro contract, that is a player problem. Not a coaching problem.

BTW, I did a quick search and the 2011 Draft has Grimes as a 5th round pick. To say Gene is not recruiting is not accurate. It is Grimes' fault he has 25 errors in 49 games. Not Gene.

There are far better ballplayers out there with far better expectations for pro contracts in higher end programs that are doing just fine right now.

If it's the players who are the problem, it goes back to the coaching. There has to be accountability at some point. I understand that some are still in the first phase of denial. It's ok. I was there too at a time.

I'm curious. When Chuck Knoblauch had his throwing issue for the Twins, was that a coaching issue or a player issue?

If the Twins fired the coach, I bet Chuck's arm would have been just fine. Right?

I bet if we fire Gene, Tyler will stop throwing the ball in the backs of runners.

I am of the opinion that when you take a half a million bucks to the bank each year, you accept full responsibility for the performance of the program. If the kids that a coach brings in do not fit into his system, then that is the coach's fault.

Who brought Tyler to WSU? Who insists on keeping Grimes at SS?

Can Gene do no wrong? Does he have zero accountability? At what point does it become a coaching issue? What are the duties as head coach again?

                                Looks like shocker3 has company.
