They were 0-2 after playing two top 25 teams. I am not going to argue that they are college football royalty but they have the best talent in the SBC in my opinion. Still we might only win 1 or 2 more games this year. This team is not good and progress won't be measured in the W-L column.

That being said the Arkansas State AD was quoted as saying that the SBC would be very interested in MSU if they decided to move up. Something to that effect. I know you all will laugh and I admit that people will have to step up to levels that they have never before done in the next few years for that to be the case. It's a dream at this point with little empirical or anecdotal evidence in place for outsiders and non-believers to come to the same conclusion. My response to that would be to point out that in the late 1970s who would have ever imagined that Wichita State baseball would grow into the great power it did in the 80s and 90s? There was absolutely nothing to indicate that it was possible. If you would have suggested it you would have been mocked if message boards and the Internet existed back then. It was purely a dream that Gene had. And it happened through all the odds. I'm not suggesting that MSU football is WSU baseball but I think that is an example of how with the right hire, the right level of support, and a little luck the dynamics can truly change.

All I can say is kudos to you for taking these ass beat downs like a man and not disappearing. Really don't understand how you think a bad FCS team whose athletic department is broke can even fathom a jump when so many other teams would fall in front of you but God Bless you for not wavering.

They are right where they belong in the Moral Victory Conference if what he's saying is true (that success won't be measured in the W L column)

Gene Stephenson's success at bringing greatness out of nothing was truly remarkable and inspiring, but college baseball is a lot less expensive than FBS football is. (And for that matter, college baseball in the 70s was a lot less expensive -- and competitive -- than it is now.)

So good luck to the MSU football true believers, but I don't think Stephenson as an inspiration has much to do with reality.

0-2 Missouri State takes on 0-1 Indiana State this weekend. I thought Missouri State has a win, but looking at the NCAA site, they aren't credited with a win over a D-2. A buy game over Drake, or any other Pioneer League, non-scholarship type team would have counted, but they may have lost that game.

I will often go visit the more active MVC boards. SIU, MSU, InSU, UNI used to be fairly active. UNI isn't too bad, but now, only BU and ISU-red (in that order), have more than a few posts a day in the offseason.

I know this belongs in a different topic, but outside of WSU the Valley has to be at about a 15-year low in regards to overall fan interest. No Creighton, SIU, BU and MSU down, and what appears to be relatively below-Normal support.

RoyalShock, I'm not sure the MVC will ever recover. The great recession triggered large funding cuts in education in Illinois, Creighton is gone and the replacements are more like Kackalacky State and less like Kent State.
