If Denver joins then let's hope Jamar Howard doesn't become an assistant coach, or we might lose him for a game or two.

Originally posted by ripemupshocks View PostI was curious what University of Denver fans thought of things like the direction of their basketball program, conference realignment, leaving the WAC after only one season, and interest from the MVC. So I started looking for a UofD message board. All I could find was a Scout board:
In over five years, only 39 threads and 103 posts, and not a single thread about the basketball program. (There must be something better than that). They also finished the regular season tied for first in the WAC, but still only averaged 5,460 fans in a 7,200 seat arena, without a single sell-out. And that's the best they've ever done. Since they have the NBA, the NFL, the NHL, MLB, CU, CSU, and the AFA, maybe they don't care about the UofD. If that's the best the UofD can do, no matter how much money they throw at the program, it won't matter.Originally posted by SubGod22 View PostOne, they just began pumping money into the program and results and attendance have both increased pretty well. Two, They still average over twice as much as Loyola. Three, hockey is the main attraction at Denver. Four, they have a ton of money and very wealthy donors. Five, their athletic budget would have been one of, if not the largest in the MVC. And one more thing about their attendance, it grew by an average of 2072 per game last year. So saying growth potential isn't there isn't being honest.
I also believe that attendance would have been higher than Drake (3965), Evansville (5135), Illinois State (4783), Indiana State (5433), UNI (4406), SIU (3299)
Loyola (2277). There are nine DII schools with better attendance and one DIII.
Regarding your response:
One. How do you know "they just began pumping money into the program"? Everyone keeps saying it, but no one ever posts a link to an article to prove it. So when did this BIG influx of money actually occur? If by results you mean wins, I guess I can give you that based on wins per season starting in 06-07: 4, 11, 15, 19, 13, 22, 21. Attendance? Not so much since the 5,460 figure I gave was actually for the 11-12 season. In the 12-13 season it fell back off to 3,312 which is even lower than the 10-11 season.
Two. I don't know why you compared DU to Loyola. In my post, I never mentioned Loyola. I never compared DU to Loyola. My post was regarding DU, not Loyola. When I have something to say on Loyola, I'll create a post about Loyola. When I have questions for Loyola fans, I'll go to the Loyola message board, just as I attempted to do when I had questions for the DU fans.
Three. "Hockey is the main attraction at Denver". Imagine that. I guess that explains why the the only time the media pays any attention to DU is when they fire one hockey coach and hire a new one.
Four. Maybe not. According to their AD, Peg Bradley-Doppes, in a Denver Post article from less than two years ago:
In lieu of football revenue, Bradley-Doppes said corporate sponsorships, summer camps and facility rentals (including 29 high school graduations) help to offset expenses — but expenses far outweigh income.
And thanks for quoting my post and then not addressing anything in it."Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

One. I was given that information from Denver fans over the past couple of years as I was looking at expansion options before anybody was a threat to leave. There are a few of them over at the CSN board I frequent.
Two. I obviously compared them because that's who we went with. It's not rocket surgery.
Three. What's that have to do with anything? They get as much if not more play in Denver than Loyola does in Chicago. And Chicago was already a city that the MVC had exposure in.
Four. Maybe. I was going off of info from Denver fans. They're good people.
Five. I didn't call you a liar. But you did make it sound like there was no hope and that they were really bad.
Are you butt hurt for some reason? I quoted you as you talked about attendance. Most of your post was about a scout board. Why the hell do I care about that? Then I went into things that make Denver attractive. I'm sorry if putting some positives out there pissed you off. I take that back, I'm not sorry. You confuse the hell out of me.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
