  • They may be the next cretin as far as fan base is concerned. A large city (larger than omaha) diversified fan base loyalties...omaha=nebraska football cretin basketball. Denver is large enough to excite a good size following with success in basketball. They have a big time arena available that if the fan base grew could accommodate renting it not unlike cretin. DU looks to have the biggest upside.

    • While I still hope for WSU to leave the MVC, Denber appears to be the hands down best option for the MVC to add.

I've been there once. It's in Colobado.

            • I was curious what University of Denver fans thought of things like the direction of their basketball program, conference realignment, leaving the WAC after only one season, and interest from the MVC. So I started looking for a UofD message board. All I could find was a Scout board:

In over five years, only 39 threads and 103 posts, and not a single thread about the basketball program. (There must be something better than that). They also finished the regular season tied for first in the WAC, but still only averaged 5,460 fans in a 7,200 seat arena, without a single sell-out. And that's the best they've ever done. Since they have the NBA, the NFL, the NHL, MLB, CU, CSU, and the AFA, maybe they don't care about the UofD. If that's the best the UofD can do, no matter how much money they throw at the program, it won't matter.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

One, they just began pumping money into the program and results and attendance have both increased pretty well. Two, They still average over twice as much as Loyola. Three, hockey is the main attraction at Denver. Four, they have a ton of money and very wealthy donors. Five, their athletic budget would have been one of, if not the largest in the MVC. And one more thing about their attendance, it grew by an average of 2072 per game last year. So saying growth potential isn't there isn't being honest.

I also believe that attendance would have been higher than Drake (3965), Evansville (5135), Illinois State (4783), Indiana State (5433), UNI (4406), SIU (3299)

Loyola (2277). There are nine DII schools with better attendance and one DIII.

Can you please tell me again who is (or will be) in the A10? From what I can tell, I don't get the fasination of that league..so I figure that I'm missing something.

                  Thanks! BA

VCU, Richmond, George Mason, Sienna, George Washington, Fordham, "dukane", Rhode Island, Umass, St. Joes, Saint Louis, Dayton, La Salle, St. Bonnies.

Now then: 2 of following three will be leaving for Big East after next year, Saint Louis, Dayton, Richmond

I don't see how it could possibly work logistically.

IF the BE expands to 12. There have been reports from DePaul that the BE has no desire to go beyond 10 anytime soon. If that were the case, I'd be all for the A10 if the MWC or AAC didn't send us an invite.

VCU is a top notch competitor.
                        Richmond is a solid program.
George Mason is still solid even though they didn't capitalize off their FF.
                        George Washington is ok.
Did Siena get an invite that I missed? Solid program if they did.
Fordham doesn't bring much to the table.
Rhode Island is ok I guess.
Duquesne has its ups and downs. A lot of downs.
                        UMass is alright.
St. Joes can be pretty solid and seem to be on the upswing.
Saint Louis looks to be decently strong. We'll see if that lasts post Majerus.
Dayton is a very solid program.
La Salle had a good year. It's not exactly the norm.
                        St. Bonnie is ok...

The A10 is losing Butler, Xavier, Temple and Charlotte for next season. There's been some talk of them adding Detroit.

The MWC would be much better if they'd take a nonfootball member. New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, UNLV, Utah State, San Diego State, Fresno, Nevada, Boise and San Jose State.

The AAC wouldn't suck either. Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Tulane, Cincinnati, UConn, Memphis, South Florida, Central Florida, Temple and ECU. There's been some message board talk of them adding three nonfootball members in WSU, VCU and ???. Navy will join as the 12th football member in '15.

                        • I still think that any conference affiliation in the east is better than the west due to exposure to eastern media markets/news/televised/print.

I don't disagree. But I still think I'd prefer the MWC over the A10. But I'd take the AAC over both.

                            • Thanks TA and Sub. And I agree with you Pogo.

Based on that info, my vote would be for the AAC, mainly for geographic proximity reasons.
