  • Belmont would be a good add IMO. But they are losing their coach away from a chance of implosion.

Getting into Ohio would be good for recruiting. Plus getting farther east wouldn't be bad either.

I just hope whatever happens, that the MVC makes the right choice.

Of course, this all hinges on WSU still being in the MVC if CU leaves. We don't know what the AD and Pres have in mind. I trust they have a plan, or at least know what they could do.

    • We cut loose evill and lose cretin to the parochial league that leaves us with eight. The a-10 cuts loose enough members to reach 8. We play an east and west division with the conference championship played in alternate years between St louis and New York. We play home and home within our division and a modified schedule against the other division. Fewer ooc games we have to worry about scheduling. Travel costs will increase somewhat for all sports but it might be offset with bigger revenues from TV and multiple bids to the ncaa. Call it the Mo Town Ten. This is a misnomer since no team is from Detroit. Just thinkin outside the box. Sorry if someone has already come up with this but I only read this topic sporadically.

You could say that about a lot of schools and their coach. Belmont isn't shelling out 1 mil to him and are reportedly paying 500k. I don't know what their finances are in the grand scheme of things. Belmont also won the OVC volleyball title this year and seem to be confident in their baseball program. I'm not familiar with either.

I wouldn't be shocked though if the MVC targeted one of UIC or Loyola because of Chicago. I know ISU and BU would love that.

I'm trying to be objective and realistic with the teams I talk about on here. We would do well to expand our presence a little, but have to realize that travel will be an issue for some schools. Also remember that's why DBU was blocked initially in baseball. And teams only had to travel there every other year.

I would love for the MVC to at least consider NMSU, Denver and Arlington, but those are long shots at best. Having a Texas presence of some kind could be great and there are few options there. I don't see it happening. Ohio on the other hand is much more realistic considering our current makeup as a conference.

And I do understand the concerns of Belmont. I share in those as well. However, there will be some risk in anyone we target. Butler was the only shot we had at as sure a thing as we could hope for and they either weren't interested or Elgin wouldn't go after them unless he could pull off the impossible and get SLU as well.

That is as logical as any other opinion. Move Indy St. to the east and SLU(if they stay) to the west. Could work, but we all know the MVC will most likely do nothing.

          • Wasn't there some talk a year or so ago about Evansville possibly dropping back down to D2? I thought I had read that somewhere.

I don't recall seeing that anywhere but remember some fans saying it. There have been some rumors about Eville moving to the Horizon. Lower costs and they'd have a better opportunity to compete. That would be addition by subtraction and just about any school we've mentioned could be as good if not better than them. Most I have no doubt would be better by a long shot.

              • Looks like the American East is calling up D2 UMass-Lowell to join their conference. Johns Hopkins is also rumored to be considering moving all sports to D1. They currently field a D1 LAX team that is rumored to be joining the B1G. Not sure if that's official yet or not. Some speculation is they could move their other sports up eventually and perhaps end up in the Ivy. They're currently in D3 and would have to transition into D2 for 5-8 years before moving to D1. We'll see if that actually happens.

Most schools would be better than Evansville. They have had competitive MBB and Baseball teams in the past, but don't recall hearing much about anything else.

Most of those 10 or so would have bigger athletic budgets, I'm sure. I don't look up numbers and haven't seen anything else saying what they spend, but I know it isn't much. My guess is Murray, Wright, and Belmont all have bigger athletic department budgets.

Wright State 2.05 million spent on basketball last year
                    Murray State 2.1
                    Belmont 2.2
                    Evansville 2.2

                    Wichita State 4.65

Don't kid yourself, Evansville is cheap when compared to Valley, it's not cheap when compared to available replacements rather it seems to be the standard.

Let's be a little more fair than that:

MVC: UNI 2.4, Drake 2.2, Ill St. 2.2, SIU 2.1, MSU 1.9, IN St 1.7

Other comparible programs: NM St 2.5, Ole Miss 2.5, CO St. 2.4, Houston 2.4, Southern Miss 2.0, LaSalle 2.0, Boise St 1.7, Davidson 1.7

I'd say they are comparible now to 7 of the Valley teams.

                              • Recent tweets claim that North Carolina has a standing offer to the B1G. Also mentioned Virginia and Georgia Tech as options. And I saw some talk awhile back that the B1G may not stop at 16 but want to go to 20. I don't know how that would work, but the B1G can pretty much do whatever it wants to. With their money and academic prestige they have a lot of options.

But UNC would be huge and cause another explosion of moves I think. Especially if they pull Duke along with them. If UNC leaves the ACC, expect the XII to target Florida State and Clemson and maybe even Georgia Tech if they don't get into the B1G. You may even see the SEC look at adding a couple and destroy the ACC as any kind of power. We'd then be down to four power conferences in the P12, XII, B1G and SEC.

Who knows if UNC would make the move, but if they do, watch out.
