Just search the word federal. You dodged my question.

Spray paint, no. Grenades, yes. There are some things it's just not worth the risk to society for either children or adults to have access to. I'm not smart enough to know where that line is.

I don't think that marijuana should be illegal for this one reason alone (that legalization for adults substantially increases use among children). But I think there might be a collection of data points, this being but one of them, that should warrant caution in legalization.

Fair conclusion. I think adults have agency. They are accountable for their poor choices and should reap the rewards of their good choices. Children, OTOH do NOT have agency. Parents are responsible for ensuring their children are protected and for instilling the values in them necessary to make good choices as adults.

All true, but in some cases it's not just the adult making a bad choice that suffers, it's society. At some point making something legal has a high enough risk/cost to society, that the individual benefit is outweighed by the societal risk.

I don't know where that line is, but I'm concerned about the cost to society of marijuana. I'm not all in or all out. But I have concerns.

I totally agree with you. It is moving toward legalization, and at some point will be legal. However, I've just got a bad feeling that a lot of kids will be harmed, and as they move into adulthood, more societal strains will become apparent.

This is what I don't get from smart people.....morons I have no trouble with...they're morons.

NOTHING good will come of this. NOTHING. It's all bad. Yet, freedom. And I get that too.

I just don't want to pay for it, either through increased social services (100% that will happen) or otherwise. And there's NO way around me (or anyone else that doesn't want to) eventually paying some kind of price.

              • If it's taxed once legalized, can the tax revenues not go towards social services. As I understand it today, there are an abundance of sales with no revenues whatsoever.

The problem is that so many people are using it now. I smell weed everywhere. Right now use is widespread and it its unregulated and untaxed. We need to regulate it and tax it so that the money can be used to address the social problems that arise from marijuana use, alcohol abuse, other drug abuse, gambling additions and other mental health problems. The needs are great right now. Prohibition didn't work with alcohol and I don't think it is working with weed either.

Weed is better than alcohol. Alaska has the highest alcohol addiction per capita in the country and it’s not close. Weed makes people lazy, but alcohol is to blame for the nearly 100% sexual abuse rate by the time a child in a village is 10. Parents aren’t smoking a joint and then hauling their 8 year old girl over to a village elder. They are getting drunk and then doing it and going back to shoot up.

Alcohol is the perpetrator and leads people to turn to weed, and then hard drugs, to mask the pain.

Legalize weed. It’s not the problem. It just makes the problem more apparent.

It would be good if there was an abundance of revenues was the result of legalization, but I was reading (many articles) that black market illicit marijuana was more profitable than over the counter in California, and Washington (possibly other states too) because of lax law enforcement. This surprised me, but laws are being broken all over the place.

What I read on the California problem was the over regulation that makes legal marijuana unprofitable. The supply dried up and only illegal weed was available.

Certainly California has an issue with not prosecuting crime, but they don’t seem to have any issue penalizing legal corporations.

I saw a report (WSJ reporting) of this as well as quickly perused several articles but there was a mention of one of the illegal shops selling illegal mushrooms too. I don’t really care but if there is a lax enforcement as mentioned in one article, maybe the businesses aren’t enforcing taxes either. Don’t know that for sure, but California, New York, and Washington (Seattle) are not known for enforcing crime.

                            • This is a Fentanyl comment, not a Marijuana legalization one. I realize that no one has made a case for Fentanyl legalization, but I didn’t want to start another drug thread. I just heard tonight that we have so much Fentanyl coming across the border, that

***1 American dies every 8 minutes.
***There is no recovery from Fentanyl addiction

Don’t experiment with this dangerous drug.
