It looks like he is doing a decent job siphoning support from Carson. In what universe does a former Carson supporter jump ship to Trump? Aside from the "herp derp, they're both outsiderz!" mantra, you would be hard pressed to find two candidates in the same party with less in common from a philosophical standpoint.

Primaries do a great job of evidencing that neither side has a monopoly on mongoloids.
Probably Cruz siphoning Carson's votes, no?

It's must be that time in the cycle where the pragmatists begin jumping from their ideal candidate. It seems a little early this time around. I usually don't expect that until after Iowa and New Hampshire.

Cruz and Rubio are definitely receiving some, but Trump jumping to 36 is notable since he's really struggled to get and stay above 30% to this point. That's always been a big part of the "he's doomed to fail" thesis trumpeted by Nate Silver and others - he basically has such high unfavorability ratings that as others drop out, he won't pick up many of their defectors.

If this poll is an outlier then no biggie. If it is indicative that he's carving out a sizable portion of Carson and/or Bush defectors, it reverses a lot of the conventional thinking.

Two back to back terrorist attacks are helping people prioritize their stance on the issues, maybe?

Looking at the detail results, the votes are coming from Carson (-8%), Bush (-5%), Paul (-4%), Huckabee (-3%), Santorium/Graham (-3%) and flowing to Cruz, Trump.

If this is the trend, Trump going to win. In the detailed questions on issues - he is ~50% or better on lot of issues (Economy, Illegal Immigration, ISIS, Budget). Foreign policy he was at 30%.

Trump support is strong with no college (46%) and leaning republican (36%), Under $50,000 (40%)

The irony of white trash coalescing behind an arrogant scion billionaire would be pretty amusing if it didn't threaten to wreck my party.

Racism and misogyny killing it this cycle, forget taxes and foreign policy.

Now that it's all but certain that Trump will win the nominee, will the GOP back him?

I thought this article from the Atlantic, identifying the "second choice" of voters and thus who would benefit from certain people dropping out, was really interesting:

Polling data that asks voters about their second choice for president can give insight into how the next stage of the race could play out.

If that can believed, Trump benefits the most from Carson's decline. He would also benefit the most from Cruz's decline. Only Rubio dropping out, from the current big four, would be bad for Trump (zero net change for him, Carson and Cruz both benefit).

If they're interested in the long term health of the party, they wouldn't.

                      But they will.

                          Trump is the energizer bunny....

Cruz and Rubio look to be the only other legitimate options

Carson on the decline, the rest barely make the polls.

The Republican Party needs to determine which one canidate they want to run against Trump and then urge all the rest to drop out for the sake of the Party.

Trump is not quitting. He will continue as an independent. Bernie will quit. We get Hillary. We get what we deserve.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
