The only reference I see mentioning a poll and Republicans is this:

Brown’s latest poll found that 72 percent of Americans oppose the government shutdown and a growing number put most of the blame on Republicans in Congress.
In what language is "growing number" synonymous with "majority"? That sounds a whole lot like an attempt to deceive readers by hiding a number that doesn't fit the narrative.

Besides, I could not care less what a largely uninformed public thinks about this topic.

Finally, a number. Yet, 44% is still not a majority.

Somehow Royal I dont think Replublicans are feeling very good about this. Dems arent flinching like they thought. New polls , though run by Liberals, are showing many Congressional Districts occupied by Teaparty Congressmen are switching Dem.

Your side is so fraught with lies, deception and attempts to mislead the public that I wouldn't trust you if you told me the sun rises in the east, however, I am RAPIDLY coming to a place where I think the only way to fix this mess is to give your leaders that want to decide everything for you and your fellow lemmings absolutely everything they want. Unfettered control. Things we be so bloody awful then we can finally rid our society of the liberal socialist left and try to reboot. I'm not sure there is another fix at this point.

Maybe Repubs aren't feeling very good about it, but that wasn't your assertion in the post I questioned. If you're going to claim that a majority know it isn't the Dems who are holding things up, the poll you or the supporting article use to back it up, should have a number north of 50%, not south of 45%.

Now, if that poll had said a majority of Americans believe both parties are contributing to the shutdown, albeit for different reasons, I might have a reasonable hope for the future of the country. Instead, we get polls that are designed only to show how one party or the other is taking it in the teeth.

Only it won't work this way. I don't think it ever has in the history of civilization. There will be backlash, but it will be of the recent Greek variety - demanding government give us what they always have.

There is no place to go to start over. President Lincoln made sure of that.

I have to agree with Royal but understand what Doc was saying. I've often wondered if we just let the left go nuts like they want if the people would finally see it for what it's for and wake up. However, I think Royal is correct in that too many people would love getting something for nothing and would more than welcome the gov't taking care of them and when it became so big that the gov't could no longer do that, like we're seeing in a handful of European countries, all hell would break loose.

This country needs some kind of uprising to save it from itself. I'd much prefer it be political and am curious to see how the '14 elections go, but if it doesn't, there will be other ways that people will try to save it. It's hard to imagine some kind of civil war again in America, but I think it's possible to happen at some point. Especially as Washington continues to destroy the Constitution.

You can disagree with his politics, but the man is a genius (something the left refuses to acknowledge in any conservative) and how anyone can elect Pelosi, Jackson-Lee and Frank literally dozens of times negates ANY slap at a GOP representative.

If there were to be another civil war, who would war with who?

I think we'd have to see serious discord and dissent in the military ranks, especially considering even the National Guard is under the federal umbrella. Without dissent, one side would have all the military assets. And we all know if you try to build up an arsenal, the feds will come in, kill everyone who resists and burn everything to the ground.

Holy cow....that was one blatant and sobering thought that you just invoked. Yikes.

On Friday, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told Congress that the Obama administration would rather risk default than negotiate with Republicans in Congress.............
