Do I need to pay a pilot to fly a banner around the city limits for 1 week? I’m half tempted to do it right now. Every hour on the hour fly that sh$& around the city limits for a whole week

Looking forward to all those scintillating 1-0 matches featuring three hours of people randomly running around a field.

Where do the outlandish football startup cost quotes come from exactly?

A workable stadium is $50M (UNCC). A very nice one is $100M (UNT). That would be paid for via debt service - low interest municipal bonds likely - so very little required up front. Annual budget for AAC or MWC level football is $10M to $15M.

All kinds of schools most WSU fans would consider beneath us in the college sports pecking order have somehow figured out how to do it, but for us it is always division by zero. Makes no sense to me. Will never stop not making sense to me.

WSU and football is the meme with the guy riding a bike who shoves a pipe through the front wheel spokes and then is confused why he’s laying the ground beside a broken bike.

Football is coming to Wichita State. You won't like that it will be spelled futboll.

Startup football programs have to start at a low level. WSU would likely end up in a conference in Texas with a bunch of schools no one has ever heard of. that would not put butts in seats. It takes several years to move from BCS to FBS and in that time the athletic department would hemorrhage SERIOUS funds.

The bare bones minimum startup would have been $40 mill when Bardo was here and that would have used Cessna Stadium. Using that facility would havew resulted in the ability to recruit players who would never be able to compete even at the FCS level.

There's another problem. The AAC pretty much told WSU that if they started football back up, they would not be playing iy in the AAC. WSU would struggle to get out of the bottom tier of even the MVC with a football program.

Starting up football would likely shut down the entire athletic department after a couple of years. We don't have Stanford's ability to go $400 million in debt.

You nailed that like a split hog. It’s typical small minded Wichita thinking and has troubled me for most of my adult life… keep thinking small and make excuses why something will never work in Wichita. I’m thankful Clyde Cessna, Walter Beech, Lloyd Stearman and other early Wichita pioneers didn’t think small and cave in to the naysayers. My, how things have changed.

A plane crash in 1970 rips the heart and soul out of our program and school (it was devastating) and we ultimately fail to persevere, while Marshall University faces a similar tragedy and overcomes their obstacles.

“Football never worked here before, so it won’t work here again.” “Nobody in Wichita cares about football.”
                            Yea, right.

Would football work again at WSU? I strongly believe it would with the right leadership and vision.

Will football ever return to WSU? Speak to me Ross! Speak to me Dr. John Bardo… darn, I miss that visionary.

I apologize for posting this, but it shows what a measly $300 million can do for a program; it’s likely a game changer for the Lawrence community. Sure, they have David Booth and other heavy hitters, but regardless, they’re thinking big and I’ll give them credit for that. Their arrogance is growing to a new level.

Do you want 3 - 5 years of lower level football played at Riverfront stadium with it's 6K or so seats (against teams you've never heard of) until WSU could transition to a higher NCAA classification? WSU would probably NEVER get invited to a league at the P5 (or 4) level. Riverfront would easily hold the fans that might be interested in games at the level WSU would have to play.

Right now, WSU can barely afford a basketball program..

BTW, the 50 - $100 mill estimates for a stadium don't include buying the land for the stadium and parking lots. A $100 mill stadium is not going to compete for recruits with any of the P5 (or 4) conferences. If you can't do that you have no marketable value to the sports networks.
