Part of the problem with our system is Congress is not only supposed to represent their district or state they are also supposed to be financially dutiful to the nation, which poses almost regular conflicts of interest.

As to the tone of the original conversation of the thread, strokes are awful to see happen to a loved one and I am sure his family deserves the utmost sympathy.

Age has been brought up frequently, but the real problem is the cognative ability of a candidate. Some folks minds just don't last through their entire life, but some do. Kind of like peckers, some rise to the occasion into their 80s while some in their 50s dangle around even if they hop in bed with sweet candy beside them.
You had to go and mention peckers….like a Maserati, this thread will turn on a dime.

Its funny that the likes of Cruz, who offered a term limit bill dont voluntarily term limit themselves....

Seems like an easy thing to lead on.

Kinda like the climate activists who dont voluntarily stop using fossil fuels. Or the overpopulation crowd.... they arent voluntarily removing themselves from the population. Or, the rich folks bitching about rich not paying their 'fair share' aren't paying more in taxes voluntarily.

Its all virtue signalling phony asses.

I did see he has a quote that says something along the lines of individual limits on ones self don't do any good if it's not universal. He'd gladly adhere to any limits that were implemented for everyone. I get both sides of that argument though.

Hell yes, Mitch is too old. Biden is too old. Feinstein, Grassley, Nancy, the list goes on and on.

I don't think age is the issue. Berney and Nancy are no spring chickens. I don't care for either but they are still sharp mentally. Some folks minds just stop working right a little earlier than their hearts.

Grassley is a high functioning person. John Fetterman, who is much younger isn’t. After thinking on these issues, I’d like for the Congress to have intelligence testing (for all people over a certain age) done by a person or group of people to determine if that Senator, Congressman, President, Cabinet member are fit to serve. It probably wouldn’t hold up in a court of law, and probably would open up other cans of worms, but Fetterman’s strokes, and his injured brain shouldn’t allow him to be in Congress. And others likely have similar problems. Feinstein likely does, McConnell likely does, Fetterman does for sure, etc.

How bad are the opponents that lost to these people? Or how dumb is the populace that elected them?

I think intelligence tests for voters makes even more sense if you’re going to live in a democracy.

True, but President Biden can get our country in a whole lot of trouble if his mini strokes cause him to have an IQ score of 75-85.

Do strokes typically increase IQ scores?
