This "distinguished" honor is also a huge (sorry about that) reason for our high medical costs. I wonder if the Dems think that obesity is a pre-existing condition? After all, it is most likely the cause of most of them (along with smoking and drug use).
Ugh! The gov is going to start tracking/limiting our sugar intake...but will allow food stamps to go towards anything remotely edible.

I think the FDA did an excellent job with enforcing food labels. They could continue in that vein by making it even more clear what is good and what is bad. A person can get fat as hell eating plain old rice and beans all day long. Ultimately there is little beyond portion control that is going to make a huge difference. Of course exercise is important but it becomes self-limiting at some point. VERY few people will out work what they eat.

I broke my soda habit almost 20 years ago. It was VERY difficult and required a transfer to fruit drinks first (same calories), before finally arriving at 100% water. If we could somehow disrupt the soda addiction process in children, we could make some headway. Absolute empty, worthless calories. If people would just drink water, they could eat so much more food and dessert.

      Stop the POP!

P.S. Food stamps should ONLY go towards healthy choices as deemed by the government. If you want to eat **** all day, pay for it yourself.

Germany has added an impressive 200,000+ in the month of new cases. They only had 200,000 cases in their first 5 months of the outbreak.

The wheels are falling off a little in some countries that did very well at the start. The moment you start getting cocky, the virus is standing by to teach you a life lesson in persistence. I suspect Germany is losing a little vigilance. Still a massive success story and will continue to be so. They are "unraveling" at the best time as well with the vaccine right around the corner.

Conversely, America has weathered the pandemic like a horse with a prolapsed asshole lying on the ground.

Can't outrun your fork. It is all portions, unless you are eating rabbit food, unfortunately. ****ing sucks. I like to eat.

The sucking part is only in the beginning. Eventually your body will adapt. And once you hit your target weight and keep it that way for a few years, your "metabolic and fat storage thermostat" will keep your weight in check unless your health deteriorates or you make a persistent dietary change. In essence, you can tear it up at the Mexican restaurant one night and not pay the price the following day. Your body will simply eliminate the excess. It's a beautiful thing and exactly how I live my life. I eat fairly healthy and then cheat like a vandal in social settings. I remain Adonis-esque.

If the government is going to help (and not demand), the key is to have positive "incentives" for good habits and neutral to negative "incentives" for bad habits or a lack of good ones. People need to be responsible for their own decisions and not rewarded for the bad ones or the lack of caring.

BERLIN—Germany is ordering a one-month partial lockdown starting Monday in the latest attempt by a European government to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by spiraling coronavirus cases.

Germany’s 16 states, which are in charge of pandemic management, agreed to shut restaurants, bars, gyms, concert halls and theaters starting Nov. 2 as part of a plan to slow a surge in infections. Hotels will be allowed to host only business travelers until the end of the month.
                    The Germans understand that 1+1=2.

See how easy that was? Who outside of a complete ignoramus would have bars and restaurants open with infections spiraling out of control?

I know this is getting a little off topic, but I disagree with legislating/taxing food.

health insurance should take this into consideration, but not the gov UNLESS they are buying the food for you.

Right. Which is why I said that if you're on food stamps, you only get healthy choices. You're not coming to Uncle Sam for a handout and then filling your cart with steak and Twinkies.

Also, I'd legislate forced birth control in exchange for welfare checks. You want a check? Well, you're not creating another mouth to feed until you're self-sufficient.

If you don't go out, you can't get infected.

Complex systems are systems whose behavior is intrinsically difficult to model due to the dependencies, competitions, relationships, or other types of interactions between their parts or between a given system and its environment.
For the 90th time..................... the consequences of each infection go well beyond the original infected. The negative externalities of you going to the bar and getting infected are possibly quite considerable.

This is why the government is behooved to lock indoor social places up so the man-babies will stay out of trouble and not harm uninvolved people.

If the virus killed whomever it infected within 24 hours with no period of additional contagion, I'd say let 'er rip! But Covid is the exact opposite reality of that now isn't it...

I absolutely agree with this. My niece is a doc and she would also agree (she works for Tennessee as a Medicaid doc so she sees this every day). Parents ought to be able to give their children all the tools they need to be successful in life. If you're working for poverty wages, that's kind of hard to do when you have 4 or 5 + kids.
