Washington Times:
Leave it to a pizza guy to come up with the $9.99 deal. Wait, sorry, that’s the 9-9-9 deal. And former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain has made the proposal the centerpiece of his 2012 campaign for president.

For the generations or workers who have paid into Social Security and Medicare, the federal government’s inevitable failure to pay them as they retire is undeniably stealing. These are generations who have worked and sacrificed to leave this country a better place for their children and grand children as they retire. The current behavior of an out of control federal government does little to ease their minds.
The federal government has imposed expensive and often counter-productive social and welfare programs on the states and the people. It is time to admit the mistakes, and get the federal government out of the way. This will allow states, cities, churches, charities and businesses to offer a helping hand instead of a handout where they live. People closest to the problems are the best ones to solve the problems effectively.
That is why I said, facetiously, that the state and local governments had all kinds of money.

If Romney gets the nomination, he will beat Obama.
With his #s right now, Obama is not re-electable.
Four Presidents were elected to the Presidency without holding previous elected office (Taylor, Grant, Hoover, and Eisenhower).
I don't see Cain being the fifth.

Then when you add in the Romney will lose part of his base either by not voting for him or not turning out- which means a major defeat.

I look at polling data for a living.
Head to head at this point are meaningless.
Bush is the only President since Gallup started that was re-elected with less than a 50% approval rating and he was 48%.
Obama has hovered b/t the high 30s and low 40s. A President simply does not get re-elected with those numbers. Add in the likely continuing high-unemployment numbers and a variety of other things, I believe that no matter who the GOP nominee is, Obama is more likely than not to be defeated.
I think Cain can beat Obama if he receives the nomination, but he isn't going to be the nominee.
The base will turn out in droves on election day to vote against Obama. They essentially did that last November 2010 and Obama wasn't even on the ballot. It will happen again and more so November 2012.
I am not a Romney suporrter in any sense of the word. I have significant differences wtih him on cap and trade, health care and several other issues.
He just might be the GOP 2012 version of Clinton in 1992. I recall the Democrats weren't excited about him during the nomination process, but once nominated, it didn't matter. The GOP and Bush were the enemies.

However, at this point I still consider Obama as the favorite. Remember Carter's poll numbers didn't tank until late in the election cycle.
P.S. The "base" will turn out; however, self described "independents" hold the keys to the kingdom.

There will so much money spent, it won't matter.
I wish I could come up with an analogy.
If Obama has 1 million commericals and Romney/GOP nominee only has 250,000 commericals that you see, it won't matter. It will beyond saturation for both candidates.
Obama had a ton more money than McCain, but does anyone really think that is why he won? Everyone knew McCain and where he was on the issues.
