In a perfect world perhaps. Think of the locals which would put personal gain ahead of doing the right thing. I slip you financial security, you let my business not abide by polution laws.

Another example would be the integration of schools in the south or voting rights. I doubt Gov Wallace and Maddox would have done the correct thing without Fed intervention.

I also doubt the States have the resourses to handle many problems without Federal help.

The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government. Having federal troops enforce a federal law is far from the same thing as providing states and cities money.

Whose paying for this stuff? WE ARE. It isn't free.

If locals and cities can't afford something, then they shouldn't do it.

This shifting around tax money has gotten idiotic.

Why should we Kansans pay for the park in South Carolina? We should we pay for the Cow Girl hall of fame in Ft. Worth? And Texans shouldn't pay for the fake prison proposed by former Congresswoman Boyda in Leavenworth.

I have stayed away from this forum for a while. In part, because I had nothing of substance to say…however:

A lot of this so called stimulus, at least in my opinion, is aimed at solidifying the Democratic base and its overall power. It that way, it is very much like many of FDR’s “stimulus” efforts and otherwise prior to the Second World War. So call me a skeptic.

It won’t help the overall economic problem.

It looks like the lobbyists are finding ways around the earmark ban.

            Lobbyists skirt Obama's earmark ban

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's ban on earmarks in the $825 billion economic stimulus bill doesn't mean interest groups, lobbyists and lawmakers won't be able to funnel money to pet projects.

They're just working around it — and perhaps inadvertently making the process more secretive.

The projects run the gamut: a Metrolink station that needs building in Placentia, Calif.; a stretch of beach in Sandy Hook, N.J., that could really use some more sand; a water park in Miami.

As President Obama said, "I won".

He did and that's the way it is....they get to shove their agenda down conservatives throats.

I wish he would actually use his mantra "change" and call out the billions in pork, on BOTH sides, and tell them to cut it out.

The Democratic House and Senate have gone nuts and are acting like it's a supermarket sweep of sorts.

              Disgusting.

I wish our President well. While my views might be “out of favor” in Washington -- should I stay silent?

Conservatives? Tell me -- what conservatives do you speak of that hold public office?

Super. My question was rhetorical. However, do they have a backbone or influence? Or, more importantly, the political savvy to capitalize on what I view as common values? I just don't know.

ABC -- I'm sure we hold many of the same views....but I am not hopeful that they will be given any consideration for at least four years.

It doesnt, please read above quote by the Pres. We will find out if it is just rhetoric or not. At least he is aware of the problems and that is a first step.

By the way both Pat Buchanan and George Will said on political shows yesterday and today that they were impressed by Obama so far. 8)

The only change that is going to make any difference is term limits and the federal government going bankrupt.

The first will never happen and the 2nd already has.

                          As for government stimulus:

Does it make more sense to have the $1 trillion in the economy or taken by government to dole out as they see fit. I don't know what the vig is, but with governemnt it's pretty high. Mind you these are the same morons there that pretty much got us in this mess to begin with. Or have useless CEO's pay working Americans 1.2 million to remodel their offices? At least that money went to someone. That money is circulating....
"When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

I don't care what Buchanan says -- I don't have a lot of respect for that guy especially after his last book. As for Will, who I generally like, -- you could say that about every President a week into his first term. However, I hope Will is right.
