Debate #1: Obama vs McCain

The reason I think more Republicans will be elected is because there is always a countervailing force that occurs in legislation when somebody gets a bit too far to one extreme in the White House. The "good old" staunch, conservative Republicans will run on a "reform campaign" and they will take seats.

After today's vote, I feel maybe there is a little more hope at least for the republicans on principle.

I think that there will be alot of new faces in Washington this time around. I don't know who will have control of the Congress, but I'd bet that there will be alot of new faces, because these guys are as much to blame for this as a president.

Then if Obama gets elected, there may be a change in the way other countries deal with the US. I'm just guessing, but sometimes a change like that could get this country kick started again. Maybe and Obama victory would help the economy? Who knows? Maybe other countries will start investing money over here and the dollar will get stronger. At this stage no one knows what will happen, but a victory for Obama could end up being a good thing. We'll just have to wait and see.

No there will not be any wholesale changes. There is also no mystery of who will have control - Democrats. Democrat have a good shot of having a fillibuster proof Senate. Democrats are going to have full control of the Executive and Legislative branch for at least the next 4 years. I guess they can show us how smart they are.

I really have a question - I keep hearing some Kansas complain about the economy? I frankly can't complain about the economy over the last 8-12 years - of course it is a buyer market for engineers. My only complaints is about gas prices.

Looking at unemployment rates in Kansas over this period have been running 3-5%. From people I talk to who run business they struggle finding people.

Or is this just sympathy for those who live in the rust belt, those who work in the automobile industry? Let face it, the automobile industry is dead because of unions (unless the government bails them out). Or is for those who are suffering on the east/west coast from their speculating in the housing bubble and lost?

My only complaints is about gas prices.

And gas prices around here are continuing to go down, even though they're still higher than last year. Looking at the USA National Gas Temperature Map from Gasbuddy, the midwest has some of the lowest prices.

It hasn't been uncommon for the Wichita area to have the lowest gas prices in the nation. Sure, I agree that gas should be lower, but I have zero complaints about the economy right now. I know some areas have been hit hard but too many people act like we're all suffering and living paycheck to paycheck and that there's no hope.





I don't get it.
