Thanks to everyone who voted NO in Wichita. You were right, it wasn't a sure thing one would get built in Sumner county. But now it's a sure thing Wichita's tax dollars are now leaving the city and heading about 15 minutes south.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Yep, any problems that come with casinos are now here! Thanks "Vote NO" campain!
Too bad that the conventions that Wichita has been losing out on can now be won by FREAK'N MULVANE!!!
People cry and whine when we try to better this town with an Arena to compete with other large cities...when we try to bring a Casino because if it isn't built here it will go 5 minutes outside our city limits. They pray that anytime they lose a vote the project will fail so they can say "Told you so". They use scare tatics to force people to vote there way. (example a friend of mine's mom hand a vote YES sign in her yard and someone poured gasoline on it and lit it on fire). Some thing is seriously wrong with these people... Don't understand why people are so against the advancement of our city.

It's because many people don't see a casino as advancement. I'd rather there not be a casino anywhere near Wichita and don't really see it doing much to bring in people from outside the area anyway. It may or may not have attracted more things. Many people opposed it for good reasons. Some were misinformed. Putting them all into one category is misplaced.
At least with it in Mulvane, I'll never have to deal with any of it at all.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

Not wanting a casino here for you own reasons, whatever they may be is fine. Whether it be your opinion of them in general, or religious beliefs, doesn't bother me. It was the propaganda being spread by anti casino people that I'm talking about.
For example, I heard anti casino people telling people to vote no...but when asked if one was going to go in Sumner county any way, they would say NO, it hasn't been voted on yet. But the fact was it had been voted on and the vote was YES. People in favor of casinos were being labeled as evil people by those vocally against casinos. All I have to say to them is thanks for voting the money out of Wichita.

Now, we've got all of the problems & none of the benefit thanks to a BS smear campaign that totally obfuscated many of the facts. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

LoL! You were really melting down in the Wichita Beagle today Marty!
This very sad and unfortunate circumstance was easily predicted by anyone who looked at the facts and did just one ounce of critical thinking on the issue. This casino, like a parasite, was going to attach itself to the largest source of nourishment available. Unfortunately, all those courageous, uninformed souls that manned the tables and handed out "Vote No' fliers at churches all over Wichita didn't get the memo.
The church needs to get out of the game of politics. You had a hand-full of clergymen across Wichita leading tens of thousands of their congregation blindly to the voting booths to unknowingly (that is the sad part) kick Wichita in the proverbial fiscal nuts. Had the pastors stuck to what they are supposed to do which is to preach the word of God and save souls (not make personal edicts that come not from the word of God but from their own mouths), perhaps the voters would have looked at all the facts using their hearts AND THEIR MINDS instead of just walking like sheep to the slaughter.
Today isn't a sad day for Wichita, we are only bearing the fruits of our labor (lack of). The sad day (for me) came when the votes were tallied and the cheers went up in campaign groups around Wichita proclaiming, "We are saved, our children our saved". What a shocking amount of clueless people in one place. Wichita certainly seems to have more than its share...

CB, in the US we have a concept called "local rule". That, and the constitution, allows people to have influence on their community. Pastors are called to shepherd their congregations in all matters of life. Having gambling in their town is one of those matters. Gambling isn't a political issue. It's a community issue.
They have just as much right (and responsibility) to influence their community as you do. Just because you don't agree with their position, doesn't make them any less relevant.

We all know that churches do this often. One, I believe, lost their tax exemption last year in Wichita for violation of this law.
So the people listening to their pastor preach about a topic to vote on in the election, are watching their churches tax exemptions go by the wayside.

What is even more sad is that the coordination of the campaign by local church leaders was so riddled with lies, twisted facts, and omittances of real pertinent factual evidence, that it rivaled secular campaign practices.
"Vote "no" because we don't want them casinos in our backyards"
-Perhaps the greatest snow-job campaign slogan in the history of Wichita.
I even got emailed by my church to go out and vote no. It was unbelievable...
