Kind of a hidden secret is the Byron Walker State Wildlife Area west of Kingman. There are five or six nice ponds that are not overfished. You really need to talk to the game warden who has maps and he can tip you off to the best of the areas to fish.

Like to learn how to trout fish some day
Why do they require you to kill the white perch that you catch?

Just found the answer. White perch is considered a nuisance fish in Kansas and they don't want you taking it from one body of water to another (which could cause them to be introduced to that second body water where they didn't exist before).

This wouldn't happen here! I hope...

I would have soiled my shorts, no doubt!

From what i understand, they can completely take over a body of water. They arent native to here either. They get transported because people think they are minnows when they are smaller. They are just bad.

I talked to somebody on FB a couple days ago that told me they're pretty sure Augusta Lake is a $75 fee to fish per year on top of your license. I was going to take my daughter out there Saturday after her volleyball game in Andover. I guess we will attempt Santa Fe instead. I did hear about some lake in or just outside of Andover that may be good fishing. Anybody know about that one?

Might be talking about Andover's "Central" Park. Old Girl Scout camp and a nice piece of land. Has a small lake that would probably more accurately be called a pond. No idea if it is any good, but they have some wood fishing piers. South of Central about a mile east of Andover Road.

That sounds right. I think it was Lake George or something like that, but it was in some city park or something.

Edit: $15/year for Dis-gusta residents, $30/year-$5/daily for butler co residents, $50/year-$10/daily non residents. Prices only apply for ages 16-65.

I don't care if there are naked women and cold 6 packs biting my line, if I gotta pay $75 to fish a damn lake for a year I'll drop my line elsewhere. That would be ridiculous.

I don't think I'll be paying 50 to go there either. Too many free places to go to make it worth that. I'll try Santa Fe and then maybe Andover. Work our way back into town.

Yates Center lake is very, very good. A drive from ICT but it's a good lake.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

My folks have a house on Augusta lake. There's literally no place to park along the lake on the weekends and the fisherman are parking in my folks backyard. The fishing is apparently pretty good right now.
