They (tv telecast) showed the American League ERA stat for starting pitchers and Duffy Was under 3. An amazing turn around and mirrors the Grienke turnaround when The Royals inserted him to the bullpen too. It makes one wonder if Ventura should be put into the pen for a period of time. His location has been his problem (like Duffy) and maybe the pen role would help him too.

I was just remarking to a co-worker today how Duffy's emergence is very similar to Greinke's. They both realized how much better their fastballs were (more movement) when they stopped trying to throw every one at max velocity.

Duffy pitching entirely out of the stretch has been a great adjustment.

Cubs lead the Cardinals 7-0 after 3. Arrieta pitching. Stick a fork in her!
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Actually, from the games I saw, Duffy started to gain confidence in the pen and was pitching about 97 MPH much of the time. Now, as a starter, he is picking the
moments when he bears down and throws max effort to get out of jams or when facing certain hitters (maybe a strikeout pitch).

Additionally, Physioc stated that Duffy's ERA was at the Top of the American League.

Which is exactly what Greinke started doing when he returned to the rotation after his bullpen stint. His fastball sat around 94-95, but could dial it up to 98-99 when needed. I think there are more factors, as others have mentioned (like pitching out of the stretch), but some guys get better results off of a fastball that moves a little more at slower speeds.

It would be great if Duffy could get some consideration for a Cy Young award, but I think his time in the bullpen to start the year will disqualify him in the minds of a lot of voters.

                    • Cubs lose. They must be the worst team in baseball.

                        • Royals lose to Twins. No shame in that, the Twins are great.

What's their record? Where they at in the standings?

I don't judge a team by where they are in the standings.
