There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Stay tuned, fire up the generator.
Make sure you blindly subtract 2 from all temperatures -- as they are probably "adjusted" :)

You need to get a lift and some 35's Broseph. Just say no to Wranglers with stock suspension, and the car tires they put on them at the factory.

Those are just about looks. I can still get plenty stuck/unstuck with stockers.

Well a lift could be argued as such (though not in consideration of approach/departure angles and ground clearance), but better tires with a more aggressive tread and heavier construction sure are not.

A Jeep lift is a suspension lift. Actual groundclearance is nil with a suspension lift, however it does afford you taller tires which will lift your transmission case off the ground and improves the already world class a/p angles.

Better tires are better. That said, I would have been just as stuck with $1500 mud tires as I was with $1000 A/Ts. While I considered lift/tires that would afford me additional rock crawling attributes, I figured there is only so much I'm willing to put my $45K rig through and investing an extra $5K in it, in KS, is not a good investment.

A good winch is a much cheaper answer!

And break-over angles, which are pretty important off-road with something as long as a JWU. What I was actually getting at when I said "ground clearance."

I like the JWU's, but I need a bed and towing capacity, so my off-road sight-seeing vehicle is a 4WD pick-up; however, I would openly guess the places that I have been off-road with my truck (not much of it in KS) would've eaten most lightweight stock AT tires for lunch, owing to blowouts due to sharp rocks. It is not about crazy trails or obstacles (not really my thing) but because of the composition of the road/trail surface. Even some of the backroads in the Flint Hills are a gamble with a lightweight tire; I've personally toasted an E-Rated BFG AT TA (NOT a lightweight tire) in the Flint Hills.

I've never actually had MT tires as they are terrible in the snow and ice due to the lack of siping. I've always had AT tires, but they don't bear much resemblance (visually or in spec) to the lightweight AT stuff you see most commonly from the factory. The heavier duty AT's look like MT tires with the deep tread blocks and all, but with the addition of siping. The other big variance with the lightweight AT's as compared to the AT's I'm referring to, is that the latter have a much stronger and heavier carcass.

And holy crap on the $45K JWU that doesn't have a Rubicon sticker on the side of the hood. That's got to be some sort of a record. Can't you get a JWU Rubicon hardtop for under $40K?
