Going to be interesting to see how quickly the shallow cold air can undercut the warmer air aloft. Also, how much precipitation will be able to refreeze into sleet which will decrease ice accumulations significantly.
I'll need to look into some things here over the next day or so before I'm sure of what I think will happen. Been too bogged down in Python to look at much weather.The mountains are calling, and I must go. -
Would this be considered "fear mongering" for anyone with a Bradford Pear tree?
Seriously though, the ice storms are one of the worst parts of living in not-really-bad-winter-land. Give me snow; at least it doesn't make the trees look like a small tornado went through every 5-10 years.Comment

00z GFS really likes a solid ice storm, with the 00z NAM in solid agreement. Since, I'm not at the office over the holiday I won't be able to look at full Euro data but it had very similar signals to the GFS/NAM when I was last in.
