I slept right through it. I guess that is why my hooch was within 60' of the FOB's mortar pit :)

I'm sure you don't use those descriptive terms very often in the same sentence. Just putting into words what many on here were thinking. Still love ya man.

Wichita is pretty close to a major area of fracking and its waste water disposal. Is there any concerns about this from the community?

No. We're too concerned with the gynormous carbon footprint and global warming we're causing here. All the earthquakes we're causing have to be put on the back burner for now.

Of course, the real concern is the entire state of Kansas sucking so bad in basketball right now that we're about to shift the orbit of the moon, and that's going to make all these other man made problems look like baby crap compared to that.

While there is no absolute proof it does appear that the salt water disposal from the high quantity of water being re-injected via disposal wells is the primary suspect in the increased seismic activity.

Yes, some concern but no panic. There has been some restrictions placed on the waste water disposal and I believe these kind of events can trigger additional restrictions although I don't know exactly how those new regulations work and those can vary from state to state.

Of course, drilling activity has slowed greatly over the past year or so as oil prices have declined precipitously. However, wells already in place continue to produce salt water that requires disposal. That would also seem to support the theory that it is the salt water disposal that is the problem and not the drilling.

I know it's possible to desalinate ocean water. Not sure about the waste water produced as a by-product of oil and gas drilling though. There may be more minerals in that water that would need to be removed other than just salt although I don't know the answer to that.

My Chilean friend at work laughs at us in our "pequeño terremoto". But what state can say they had a blizzard, tornado and then a earthquake the same day.

Up until now the thought of earthquake insurance in Kansas and Oklahoma would have been looked at with derision............up until now.

                        That seems very reasonable.

I'm afraid that these quakes getting bigger are a precursor to a major one. The fault line near Wichita has been inactive for a very long time. Now it isn't.

Since the one near Medford, OK yesterday around 4:30 pm, there have been six more in that area. Two right after that first one, 3.1 and 3.9, then four more in the 2.5 to 2.7 range. Apparently one of those smaller ones was around 8 am this morning.
