Having said that, I think he is very clearly in a 'damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't' situation right now. With such a large lead and the division decided with weeks to go, he faced two options:

    1. Continue to play your everyday starters all the time, put up a great record that assures home-field advantage; and pray that everyone is still healthy and full-strength by the playoffs.
    2. Cycle your everyday starters through the lineup, hoping to give everyone enough time to keep their timing, but significantly reduce their risk of injury and hopefully refill some tanks before the playoff run; and pray that you win just enough to hang on to home-field advantage.

The problem with option 1 is that the minute somebody gets hurt, he's the biggest moron ever. At that point, no fan would care about home-field, just that Yost is such a moron to play his everyday players when they are already assured a playoff spot.

The problem with option 2 is that the team might suck for a month, drop home-field advantage, and might not even recover their form and chemistry once the playoffs start.

Yost is actually even now in line to walk down the middle, limping to the finish line, maintaining home-field advantage, and resting his starters.

The bigger issue to me, is what the heck happened to the guys that haven't had their schedules changed? The pitching staff has gone to crap.

Ned "managed" to walk that tight rope perfectly. No injuries, best record. Color me surprised. The team even responded by winning their last 5 to regain some momentum going into the playoffs.

    • Who do we want to play -- the Astros or the Yankees? We were recently swept by both of them.

Personally, I would love to send the Yanks home with their tails between their legs.

No the Royals werent. The Yankees sweep was back in May which isnt recent by any means and the last time the Royals played the Astros they won the series 2-1.

Id prefer to stay away from houston as they have the better team as far as Im concerned.

        • I agree. Houston pitching is better than NYs. I can't believe that I am wanting a Yankee win, but there it is.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

          • With Sabathia gone, I believe that leaves NYY with nothing but right-handers in their rotation. So bring on the Yanks, I guess?

I should have been more specific -- we were swept in both of those away series this year. At home we did better.

It actually turned out to be a very exciting finish to the regular season in both leagues. It didn't look good for either the Royals or Cards to hold on. The Jays were hot and it looked like the Cardinals were going to go from the best record in baseball to the one game wild card. What was most surprising to me was that neither folded. I thought one or the other wouldn't stay on top.

                  • There's a good chance I'll be in Chicago for work during the NLCS - unfortunately, the Cubs would be on the road that evening at New York or LA if they can make it that far. Boo!

                    • Gives the royals 13% chance. Not too bad.

The bats sucked the last month of the season. This game was a microcosm of the month of September.

Good luck this week. Hope you don't get Royal'ed. ;)

                          • I have no complaints. I have been waiting for this set-up since the middle of the season. I will root for my hometown team, but I'm a winner either way, as KC is my second-favorite team.

I hope whomever wins the World Series.

I'm pulling for the Cards, but they are just too banged up and the players that have come back off the DL in the last week or so are just not game shape ready IMHO. I'm good with Houston, Texas, Cubbies, Pitt, and KC and probably the Mets so that probably means the Jays and Dodgers in the WS.

Saw where A-Rod was 0-4 with 2 SO and saw only 10 pitches.

It's the curse of Ted Lilly. Ted took him for a ride when he got his divorce. Shouldn't have played house with Madonna.
