  • As long as he keeps hitting balls like that, he can "psych" whoever he wants.

      • Wade Davis is not human. I was about to accept that today was the day he finally came up short. He strikes out Vogt, one of the ALs best hitters and induces a double play to get out of the jam. Stunning reversal. Nice to see the A's hopes crushed like that.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

        • I screamed at the television when Salvy swung at ball 4 and then he crushed the next pitch to left. What do I know? Not much. But again, Wade davis is a cyborg.

          • With all the recent injuries to the starting rotation I'm amazed KC has a 5.5 game cushion and is 16 games over .500.

How good does that Chris Young signing look now? The Joe Blanton reclamation project has already paid dividends. And yes, Wade Davis is a cyborg.

            • The Royals are 15-9 in June (2 games left). The schedule had 11 @ home and 15 away. Although it was mostly not vs.top tier teams, still very good. It is the first time they have been 16 gams above .500 before the All-Star break since 1980.

July switches the other way with lots of home games vs. better teams.

I sure would like to see a move for a #2 or #3 starter and hope Ventura comes back strong. Great work by Young and Blanton so far.

I hate to say it but I don't see them making a move. They don't have young, high level talent that teams want to trade high level pitching talent for. They are more likely going to work with Volquez, Ventura, and Duffy, and hope that they become more solid and consistent. Ventura and Volquez may have the talent to be an Ace. Not sure Volquez is the answer, Ventura has the talent, but not sure he is the answer either. Medellin has been that kind of talent in the past but they would have to get lucky for that to work out for them that way this summer. I think that they have enough to get to the World Series but not win it.

Not even if they go out and win the all star game? ;)

I really don't understand a conclusion like this. Baseball is a quirky game. Any team that gets to the WS can win it.

The same logic has been applied to making the playoffs but not getting to the WS. I believe two teams defied it just last year.

I just think that starting pitching is more of a problem in a series against another really good team. In my opinion,(maybe it isn't logical), their top shelf and deep pen, defense, and improved hitting will get them there. However, if Ventura, Volquez, or someone that we don't know about yet (Medellin, or Blanton) becomes that one ACE that they need (in a short series), I will change my opinion. I just don't feel that their starting pitching staff has the guy that can drive the bus right now.

By the way, I don't mean that they don't have a chance in a short series, but the odds are against them unless they get that "ACE" like Bumgarner for San Francisco last year.

                      • Alex Gordon out for at least eight weeks.

                        Ugh.

                        • What's going on with Moose missing this much time? Family illness? It must be serious for him to miss this much time.

                          • It is rumored that his mother is seriously ill. Just what I have picked up from several Royal sites.

                            • The days since Gordon's injury shows why this Royals team is so good. Players step up when needed. Orlando and Dyson have done great as a platoon. I don't expect them to replicate Alex's offensive production or defense over the long-haul, but they are doing very well at minimizing the impact of being Gordon-less.

18 over at the all-star break. Amazing.

                              • Is Dusty still with the team or did he get sent down? If he is still with the team, what's the # of game threshold where he starts getting paid like a big leaguer?
