I would think the blackout restrictions still apply unfortunately. If you go to espn3.com you can click on our game and the blackout restrictions to see which portions of which state are blacked out.

I'm just guessing, but I would think that's how it would work.

It kind of feels like you are looking to trap me with the language of your question. If I am misreading, I apologize.

You asked if the game is on Sling TV tonight. It is available via the WatchESPN App for Sling TV subscribers. I will be watching it using that method this evening. I do not know whether any and all ISPs have access to the same. It is my understanding that Cox has pigeonholed all but a few counties in Kansas into watching local game broadcasts on Cox 22 by having ESPN3 apply a blackout to the region as part of their broadcast agreement. It seems likely that same blackout will apply whether you are accessing ESPN3 through Cox, AT&T, Sling TV, or any other subscription if you are within the affected region, but I cannot confirm.

You are suffering from SSOSTAF (Shockernet SOS Thread argument fatigue) and indeed anticipating an argument where there is none. LMAO. I just want to know if I can watch the game tonight if I drop 25 bones (more importantly than the 25 bones I don't want to assume I can watch it on Sling and then have to go somewhere at the last minute if I can't).

So you answered my question perfectly! I may still be blacked out because I am on Uverse. I usually have a way around that problem so I will grab Sling TV and take the gamble.

        Thanks for the feedback!

This has been explained a few times by me and others. Blackout restrictions are the same as before for all service providers. If you reside in a state that has a MVC team, that state will be blacked out. So if you live in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, or Indiana. you can't watch ESPN3 live.

I'm sure there are ways to get around it.

I recently moved and do not have any cable at all. All I have is UVerse Internet. I went to ESPN360 on my computer and it told me I was blacked out. So then I logged in from Texas. I hit ESPN360 just to see what would happen. It said I am not authorized (my computer was still logged in to my old UVerse account which no longer has television [or Internet for that matter]). So on the "Powered by AT&T UVerse" logo in the upper right at ESPN360.com, I logged out. Then clicked on the game to see what would happen. It asked me to authenticate. Fair enough.

I went to sling.com and started my 7 day trial.

I then made sure I was still logged in from Texas, used Sling TV as my provider at ESPN360.com, clicked on the Shockers and BOOM, NQHD video of the Shocks with good ol' Bruce on the call.

            Thanks for starting this thread!

P.S. By the way, as far as a I know I do not have the extra sports package with ESPNU. So espn360 will work with just the $20 package I am thinking.

The blackout maps per ESPN3 this year for WSU only have the state of Kansas and part of the western edge of Missouri blacked out. Perhaps you meant that if you live in those states you can't watch ESPN3 live if the team in that specific state is playing. Folks in Indiana, Iowa, etc. definitely could watch us live on ESPN3 last night, just as we've been able to watch Loyola (IL), UNI, etc. on ESPN3 live this season in Kansas or elsewhere.

If that's you meant, I misunderstood.

I think that is true for games that are locally televised, such as WSU games on Cox. However, I believe that games that are part of the MVC ESPN package are blacked out on ESPN3 in all MVC states.

Interesting. So it's tied to whether that MVC game is broadcast on the regional Fox network as part of the MVC package then? And games that are on ESPN3, and ESPN3 only with no cable networks carrying it, are available with no blackout?

Or are games that are on ESPN3, and ESPN3 only, blacked out for the entire MVC footprint?

That would be a little counter intuitive. Blacking out just Kansas if Cox picks it up versus blocking out ~5 entire states if they don't doesn't make much sense unless there is a regional carrier involved protecting its footprint.

For instance- this evening's games on ESPN3 are: Bradley @ Illinois State (subject to blackout for entire footprint), and Missouri State @ Indiana State (no blackout).

What distinguishes one from the other? On schedules it is noted as MVC-TV- does this mean Fox Sports Midwest/whatever picks it up as well?

No, games that are ESPN3 only are not blacked out. Sorry, I overlooked that variable. I was just addressing games that are televised and on ESPN3.

What do peeps know about the rumored ESPN MVC channel? I've heard that they will take each school's equivalent of ShockerVision and package it for online streaming. I assume this would be for more sports than just basketball. How does this affect local TV broadcasts such as Cox 22. Who knows something about this?

In regards to how does it affect local TV broadcasts, I'd imagine it would be a net positive. More theoretical viewers = more advertisers = more revenue, a contract for syndication with ESPN = more revenue. I think it's an overall positive for the local broadcasters.

Thanks. So you're saying they will put the local TV content on the MVC channel?

I'd imagine that's the only way it'd be. Unless they're talking about things that aren't even broadcast on a network, ie: Shocker Vision

But I think it'd be similar to when WSU has a game on Cox 22 and they stream it on the Watch ESPN service.

I thought a few weeks ago that someone had posted an email response that he/she received from the WSU athletic dept stating that the conference would be taking over ShockerVision next year. I thought that would be part of the MVC channel, but I've been wrong before.
