    you never gave total numbers of actual homicide victims. and you never gave "other killed by other" percentage hence the reason i used 50% then used the same figure as the "white" percentage.

    for your 2010 example using the population percentages we should have
    12435 white victims
    1890 black victims
    660 other victims
    and with our missing .1% we are missing 15 victims.

    now we apply our known percentages of homicides committed by whites on whites and blacks on blacks we get
    12435*84%
    1890*93%

    what we actually need is a break down of homicide victims by race. then we could apply that to your formula and come of with the error.

    and for the record, you and i just disagree on the math.
    You're just taking a different approach, but let's try it out. They have provided everything you need, and you don't need "other" to compare approaches.

    The "ideal" scenario for 15000 homicides is: 12435 white victims, 1890 black victims

    Now of the 1890 black victims we would expect (multiply the population through again):
    238 black offenders (of black victims) - ideal black-on-black homicides given 15000 homicides

    Of the 12435 white victims we would expect to see:
    10308 white offenders (of white victims) - ideal white-on-white homicides given 15000 homicides.

    The actual results for 15000 homicides, using 2008 ratios is (taken from Table 1 by multiplying the percentages through): 7545 white victims, 7110 black victims

    Of the 7110 black victims, we know that 93% were killed by blacks (from page 13):
    That gives 6612 black offenders (of black victims)

    Of the 7545 white victims, we know that 84% were killed by whites:
    That gives 6338 white offenders (of white victims)

    The error using this approach is:

    black-on-black error = 2678% -- (6612 - 238)/238 * 100
    white-on-white error = -38.5% -- (6338 - 10308)/10308 * 100

    We can also do black-on-white. We expect about 1566 {12435 x 12.6%} of black-on-white homicides. About 9% of actual white deaths were due to black offenders, which gives 679 actual black-on-white homicides.
    black-on-white error = -56.6% error -- (679 - 1566)/1566 * 100

    Same result, just more extreme values for an easily explainable reason.

    Black on black crime is a crisis, while black on white homicide rates indicate no racial tension what-so-ever.
