  • Major Winter Storm - Oz Part 2 [Sunday/Monday]

    from NWS

THE SITUATION IS LOOKING INCREASINGLY OMINOUS. A DEEPENING MID-UPR DECK
TROF WILL EXPERIENCE CYCLOGENESIS AS IT DIGS SE FROM THE CNTRL ROCKIES
TO THE TX/OK PANHANDLES/WRN KS REGION. IN RESPONSE...SFC CYCLOGENESIS
WOULD ENSUE OVER THE WRN/SWRN PLAINS. WITH THE OVERALL PATTERN BECOMING
INCREASINGLY AMPLIFIED AS THE CYCLONE STRENGTHENS WHILE IT MOVES E OVER
OK VERY MOIST WRAP-AROUND/ISENTROPIC ASCENT WILL INCREASE GREATLY. WITH
TIME A TROWAL WILL DEVELOP OVER NRN KS SUN NGT. THE TROWAL WILL SHARPEN
CONSIDERABLY MON MORNING OVER CNTRL & SC KS. AS THE MID-UPR CYCLONE DIGS
OVER THE TX PANHANDLE UPR-DECK DIFFLUENCE WILL INCREASE. THE RESULT: A
WINTER STORM IS INCREASINGLY LIKELY FOR NEARLY ALL AREAS FOR SUNDAY NGT
& MON. THE CYCLONE WILL WIND UP LIKE AN ALARM CLOCK AS IT VENTURES E
ALONG/NEAR THE OK/KS BORDER ON MON. THIS WOULD INDUCE DEEP-LAYER FLOW TO
BACK TO A NLY COMPONENT & INCREASE CONSIDERABLY. A BLIZZARD WATCH MAY BE
ISSUED FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR MON. THERE ARE STILL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
THE GFS & ECMWF...BUT THOSE DIFFERENCES ARE NARROWING. SNOWFALLS OF 5-7
INCHES ARE LIKELY ACROSS CNTRL & SC KS BY MON EVE & WITH N/NW WINDS OF
20-30 MPH BLOWING & DRIFTING WOULD CERTAINLY RESULT. HAVE CHECKED SWING
ON ISSUING ANY WATCHES AT THIS TIME SO AS TO ALLOW SUCCESSORS TO STUDY
MODEL TRENDS. THESE PERIODS WILL BE WATCHED CLOSELY! PLEASE STAY TUNED.

English please. Are we all going to suffocate to death under 7 more inches of snow?

I think he's saying that ECMWF is more aggressive on the potential snow. GFS and NAM not predicting as much. I post a could screen shots (I don't have access to the ECMWF.

Well it certainly seems like there is an awful lot of difference between "GFS" and "NAM". If I'm reading it right, one indicates almost no one in Kansas will get more than 4 inches, while the other has a pretty good section of Kansas getting 4-16 inches. Hate to see the third more aggressive model.

There could also be a little wobble in that precipitation shield.

                    Two things are for sure:

                    Blowing snow this time.

                    Smaller Precipitation coverage.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

That's exactly right.. It's why making prediction for amounts can be difficult.

One weather model has Lawrence getting 12-18 more inches...time to stock up on more food.

NAM seems to be getting it right as more and more it looks like it is going to drop even further south. Brunt of the snow looks like it will now bein OK.
