Drought map from NWS WIchita today.

We really need rain. Chances early next week.

I did find out today that Mother Nature, like Topeka, prefers NE KS.

Without reading the rest of your post, I saw it and said, “no way!” But I live in the KC area so it’s no wonder that I thought we had experienced a good amount of rain this spring.

Is the prediction for a ton of rain the next few days going to pan out?

If it doesn't, I'll never trust weather people again.

Not sure I have seen any predictions for a ton of rain. But it sure would be nice to get some meaningful showers for a couple of days.

This is showing 1.5" to 2" over the next three days, maybe?

That's a start. Hopefully, it's a nice slow and steady soaking rain.

So after watching the radar over the last few days, the rain coverage just seems to "go around", "disappear", and "reform north, south, east and west" of Wichita proper. What the heck is going on? I'm starting to wonder, if its not some sort of alien presence preventing this area from getting rain. Is this some sort of experiment? Just really, really, odd. Signed, frustrated.

Kung Wu may need to add "Drought" into the title of this chat room.

That's what happened regularly in the summers of 2011 and 2012, which you might recall were awful with respect to high temps and drought.

I'm no meteorologist, or shadetree meteorologist, but I would assume areas of drought beget more drought, and areas with flooding beget more flooding, simply due to the systems feeding off the moisture in the ground or otherwise hanging out near the ground. But that take is worth what you paid for it.

I just recently received a push notification that indicated rain could move into the area tonight, but it still mostly shows overnight and pretty much all day tomorrow. I believe it's classified as isolated or scattered so who knows who will actually get rain, but it seems to be potentially there all day.

It doesn't really look like it. Moisture is still slow to return. Severe weather risk right now is SLIGHT for Wichita so nothing can be totally ruled out at the moment.

The further south you are in Kansas, the more likely you will get measurable rains.
