Miege obviously is a different situation with supposed recruiting of Missouri kids. And they also regularly play 6a and 5a schools.
I would also be curious to know how many state runners up were private.
And lastly, I can't remember the number, but isn't there only 35 private schools in Kansas? The percentages, whatever they are, were disproportionate and I'm sure still are.Comment

So, if I counted right, the privates schools had 33 total state titles. The publics had 103. If the privates make up around 8% of schools in Kansas, then that is still very disproportionate. I believe there are 2 more small privates being added this year. Wichita Classical and Wichita Central Christian Academy.
Regardless, it is still a big difference, also considering all the 6a titles are public schools.Comment

I saw this in the article at https://kshsaacovered.com/news/2022/...d-meeting.aspx and it's from the guy from Paola who pushes the multiplier the most - "If public schools comprise 95% of the members, they should win 95% of the championships. If private schools are 5% of the members, they should win roughly 5% of the championships," Hines said. "That's not what's happening at all."
Personally I don't buy the whole private schools should only win x amount of championships because they're x amount of the number of schools. It's about as valid as saying something like x number of schools are located above I70 and therefore they should only win x number of titles. Or saying Wichita is the biggest school system in the state and therefore should win more title than anyone (spoiler alert - Wichita won only one title this year and it was in Debate).
The whole x amount thing falls apart due to the fact there are 354 schools competing for 136 state championships spread over 6 classes. Miege isn't competing against 353 other schools or in all 6 classes, just the 35 other schools in 4A, or in a couple cases multiple classes. And with bracket-based state tournaments like in football, it only has to beat a handful of teams. Also, 5A has 4 private schools in it, so there's a chance for more private school wins in it, especially given 2 of the schools are in the east and 2 are in the west.
I added classes to the table below in order to show how the whole disparity thing falls apart once you look at the data closer:
There were 107 championships available in 5A and lower. Private schools won 33 of them spread across 14 schools. In the table below, if you remove those private schools, the 6A schools, and the 3 6A wins by Shawnee-Mill Valley (Mill Valley was bumped up to 6A but played 5A football and won it), that will leave you with 10 public schools that won 29 altogether. So while 14 private schools win 33 titles, 10 public schools won almost as many with 29. In fact you could add in 4 non-6A public schools from the 1 win list and the numbers would be the same - 14 schools / 33 titles.
Also, if you look at the top 10 schools (6 public, 4 private) in the table, they won 42 titles out of the 136 possible for all classes, or 31% of the titles. Add in the 5 schools with 3 wins apiece, all public schools, and you're up to 57 titles or 42% that were won by 15 schools (11 public and 4 private). Finally, you can add in the 12 schools (6 public, 6 private) that won 2 apiece to get up to 81 titles or 60% that were won by just 27 schools in the state. So 27 schools - 17 public and 10 private - out of 354 win 60% of the titles and KSHSAA and others think it's a private school issue. In my opinion, given those 27 schools alone winning over half the titles and the majority of them being public schools, any multiplier should apply to all schools, not just private ones.
