WBJ - Wyandotte chief: Sports betting off table at Crosswinds Casino amid litigation with state

"The state unfortunately has refused to negotiate in good faith with us — what they call a Class III gaming compact," said Wyandotte Chief Billy Friend. "Currently we're using their resources to litigate against the Department of Interior about the status of our land."

Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt had sued in 2020 in an attempt to block the U.S. Department of Interior's decision to allow the Wyandotte Nation to operate a casino in Sedgwick County, where slot machines and casino gaming are considered illegal unless — as in this case — federal law overrides the prohibition.

Friend said the case is awaiting oral arguments in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.

Under new legislation approved in May, the four state-affiliated casinos in Kansas — Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kan., Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburg and Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City — can offer in-person sports betting. People in Kansas can also place bets online and using mobile sportsbook applications.

Under the new legislation in Kansas, tribal casinos and venues such as restaurants and nonprofit fraternal or veterans organizations can also seek approval from the state to offer sports betting.
The state has yet to approve any tribal casinos for sports gambling. Though it sounds like the tribes can go to the Department of the Interior and have the state forced to accept sports gambling there; and that seems to be the direction the Wyandotte are going to go with this.

Who'd ever think that the government would want to stymie competition...

They're still fighting against the Crosswinds Casino existing

Can someone explain the "free bet" thing? Did that need done before the start of Kansas gambling? I just deposited $10 and made a Super Bowl bet on MGM, but I don't see anything regarding free money for another bet. Was I supposed to put in some promo code?

If I missed the boat on signing up, it's fine, because it's not like I want to wade too deeply into the gambling waters. My kids seem to think that they deserve to eat. I just did not want to miss out on "free betting money" if I could still do that.

You had to sign up before betting went live in Kansas. Looking at the different sites, they still do have certain deposit based promotions.

Ok, I'm sure I'm not the only one with free money for bets. Looks like it has to be used by 9/8, which means NFL is not an option. I want to throw all of the free money at one bet but need help on a "sure thing". Anyone looking at a game they think has a decent chance? Fever?

I know FanDuel had a deal where if you signed up before it went live, you got $100. I think I heard that Draft Kings will/would give you $200 if you placed a $10 bet I think it was.

I used FanDuel for my freebie as some friends had talked me into the Fantasy FanDuel app so we could bet on UFC and NFL. I found that tolerable because most of my entries for $.25 or less. So it was a fun way not to lose a lot of money. Had it for almost two years and was down about $30. That balance is not available on the Fantasy app and the Sports Book app.

I don't know anything about MGM or the others. I have seen a lot of commercials for both FanDuel and Draft Kings leading up to today while watching TV.
