    • WBJ - Wichita airport will start winter nonstop service to Miami

American Airlines will offer Saturday flights to and from Miami beginning Nov. 11. The Saturday flights will leave Wichita at 6:45 a.m. and arrive at Miami International Airport at 11:20 a.m. ET. Return flights leave Miami at 7:30 p.m. ET and arrive in Wichita at 10:30 p.m.

"We're excited to add this attrative destination to our route map for the winter, and very grateful to American Airlines for expanding service in Wichita," director of airports Jesse Romo said in a statement.

American's Miami hub serves 133 destinations, including the Carribean, South America and Europe.
      I'd call this a win.

          • Another nice win for Wichita

KSN - Australian company chooses Wichita for new facility

An Australian company is coming to the Air Capital of the World. Quickstep, Australia’s largest independent aerospace composite manufacturer, has chosen the Wichita area as its preferred location for its first U.S. engineering and manufacturing facility.

“Wichita is a globally recognized center of excellence for aerospace technology. The location itself will offer significant business-winning opportunities,” Quickstep Inc. Vice President Steve Osborne said in a news release.

The company spent eight months considering more than 20 U.S. locations before choosing Wichita. The Greater Wichita Partnership announced the decision Thursday morning but did not say an exact location or how many jobs this will bring to the area.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission has approved a historical horse racing proposal at Wichita Greyhound Park.

                    • Eagle - Downtown culinary school's second restaurant - this one called The Bistro - opens today

The students will “be able to get a taste of real world volume, real world production, and real world actual pressure but still be in the bubble of safety, still inside the walls of the school kicking out ideally what’s going to be better food than any other thing available,” he said.

The students will be paid to work in the restaurant kitchen, which will follow WSU Tech’s school calendar and will be open about 48 weeks out of the year, Michael said. It will, for example, close over Christmas break.

The Bistro’s front-of-house is set up to be able to almost run itself. Customers will scan QR codes found on their tables to order food and pay their bills. Drinks are self-serve, and when customers’ food is ready, their names will be called so they can pick it up and either take it to go or choose one of the seats in The Bistro area or in the adjoining future food hall area. Michael says the food hall, with room for five or six different food concepts, should be operating by year’s end. Jinya Ramen Bar, a commercial endeavor by Niche developer Sudha Tokala, is not run by students. It opened at Niche in April and was the space’s first restaurant.
There will be a few more restaurants in time as part of this endeavor.

WBJ - American Airlines launching Wichita-to-D.C. daily nonstop flights in 2024

Beginning on Jan. 8, American Airlines will begin nonstop daily service from Wichita to Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport, Sen. Jerry Moran's (R-Kansas) office announced Friday.

The flights will leave D.C. at 11:30 a.m. ET and arrive at Eisenhower National Airport at 1:45 p.m. Return flights leave Wichita at 3:30 p.m. and arrive at Reagan National Airport at 7:15 p.m. ET.

In a news release, Moran said he has seen for several years "a vital need of connecting 'The Air Capital of the World' with the nation’s capital."

"The new direct American Airlines flight will allow federal officials to quickly travel to Wichita to see firsthand the great work being done in our region – amplifying our competitiveness as a city and state," Moran said. "This has long been a void I have heard from industry and business owners, and I am thrilled our hard work to fill this void is accomplished. It will also make travel to Washington, D.C. faster and more affordable for Kansans.”
Having a direct link to DC could be quite beneficial for the area. This is a big win.

The airport has been racking up some wins here lately. I know I've enjoyed my experience with the airport--hanging out at the River City brewery before a flight is one of my highlights of my trips back home.

It wasn't that many years ago it seemed like there were only a couple of flights to choose from between Denver and Wichita. The last time I flew back (March), I had so many options on Southwest and United. And, best of all, they're super cheap. Eisenhower is one of the things Wichita has gotten right, so all the people involved who've made this happen deserve a lot of kudos.

Eagle - Supersize national retailer coming to the former Stein Mart space at Greenwich Place

“Our typical store carries more than 8,000 different wines from every wine-producing region in the world,” the site said. “The typical Total Wine & More also carries more than 2,500 beers, from America’s most popular brands to hard-to-find microbrews and imports, and more than 3,000 different spirits in every style and price range.”

Brothers David and Robert Trone started the business in 1991 with one Delaware store.

Robert Trone’s name is on articles of incorporation for Kansas Fine Wine & Spirits, which applied for a liquor license at 12100 Blue Valley Parkway.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I know there are local retailers that if the beer is available/allowed in Kansas, they already have it in their store. I'm sure there are others here that could speak to the wine availability in the Wichita area, but I'm guessing it is the same. Personally, I will support "local".
