2021 Gold Cup

Everyone down in pain in KC.

Mexico struggled last night tying T&T. In fairness, the goalie for Trinidad was amazing.

Canada looked good today winning easily.


The US has looked young, as they are. But late in the 2nd half they went even younger and Gianluca Busio and Daryl Dike have been energizing to say the least.

Lots to pick apart, but the Americans get the result, 1-0 vs Haiti.

Busio and Dike are only scratching the surface of what they can be. I've seen a lot more of Busio as he plays for SKC, and the kid is legit. Sometimes I think he needs to be a little more aggressive in his approach, but eventually he'll end up in Italy and I'll miss watching him play.

Maybe I just don't understand this "great sporting spectacle",(Professional American Football is still the most entertaining sport spectacle imo), and I really enjoy a good baseball game too, but how can a 1-0 game, be exciting? A 1-0 baseball game can be boring too, but at least you are watching a slow sport in that case that is easy to follow, and takes breaks every three outs. Get a couple of beers, and baseball is "fun".

I just still can't get into Hockey, or Soccer, except if the Americans are in the Championship game.

I don't know if I'm an average sports fan or not, but I'll pretty much lock in on anything remotely relevant when it comes to Country competing in a world like event.

I wouldn't consider myself a soccer guy, but I will follow the big tournaments. The Gold Cup is the biggest non World Cup tournament for North America. We're watching guys that likely will represent the USA at the next World Cup (assuming we qualify). I can understand not appreciating a 1-0 game. There is more to the game than goals, although admittedly only goals matter.

I also think there's something to be said for rooting for the underdog. The dream team wasn't that exciting to me. They should win by 100. It's more fun (to me at least) to win a little unexpectedly. Especially when it's something I'm not invested in (clearly I'd be just fine with 40-0 basketball seasons year after year) like soccer.

Also there are a lot of things about soccer that I really would like to see in this country, like promotions in the English league.


Overall, I'm not sure I think last night's game was "exciting"....not sure I said it was either....but seeing youngsters that have a chance to be the next stars for our National team, like Dike, is exciting, to me at least.

Regardless of score, soccer tends to have quite a bit of action and excitement. I'd say the same for hockey. The more I watch soccer, the more I've appreciated it. I don't watch all soccer, but I watch every SKC game I can and will generally watch the national team when I get the chance. And with a guy like Busio on it, for me, it makes it a little more exciting. I've been watching this kid play since he was 16 and love how he never seems to get knocked off his game.

I'm also excited that Children's Mercy is hosting these games. KC has become a great soccer city (area) and has an absolutely electric atmosphere.

Attended both games last night. Scoreboards kept going out during Canada's game for some reason.

Fan right next to me got escorted out with his kids for breaking a seat when a Haitian dude shanked on a completely open net.

Busio has a freaking cannon. Nearly broke the crossbar when he it a point blank cracker from 12? yards out.

This Jamaican side has had the Americans on their heels the entire game. They seem to be quicker to the ball at almost every position.

Both keepers have been above average. Dike struggled a bit and has been replaced. No score in the 68th minute and the US will have to come up with something special to advance to the semisfinals.
