  • Morrie has had more than 1 successful mid-high end establishments in Wichita. This will undoubtedly be another one. He does it right for his market.

    • I've heard good things, but haven't yet been to one.

WBJ - KC-based The Big Biscuit to open in spring, at least three more to come

Chad Offerdahl, co-CEO of Kansas City-based breakfast chain The Big Biscuit, has had Wichita in his sights for quite some time.

Offerdahl said many Wichitans have asked when he would open the chain in the city.

"We've been saying that we want to come there, we're just looking for the right spot," he said.

Offerdahl's The Big Biscuit is a breakfast and lunch concept that provides American-style food options — like biscuits and gravy, omelets, waffles — and drinks like dirty sodas and coffee. The chain has 30 locations across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.
Coming to 21st and Maize first. He mentioned Bel Aire, Derby, Park City, and Andover as potential options for locations as well.

      • I just don't get it. Maybe I'm too damned old and cranky all the time. I am hardly worried about where my next meal is coming from, but why in the world would I take my family of 3 to breakfast for at least $50+ (simple plate and coffee)?

There's nothing to making breakfast, at least not what they are offering, and you'll get the same thing at IHOP for half, or less, unless a double frappy salted caramel $10 cold coffee is a must have....and if it is, I feel bad for you.

Don't misunderstand me...I'm happy to pay $$$$ for an 8oz wild Alaskan salmon filet dinner. I don't mind paying for something unique or really well done. 2 eggs and a biscuit and gravy for $15? No thanks for this guy.

        • For me, it's social. Meeting up with a friend, or friends, and catching up over a meal is always good. Sometimes we do breakfast/brunch.

It's always cheaper to eat any meal at home, sometimes people simply don't want to prepare and cook.

For people traveling, cooking is rarely an actual option. There are a lot of softball and MAYB tournaments that will have people in that area often. Then there are also just other visitors to town as well.

          • I went to IHOP a few years ago and there wasn't anything less than $13 on the menu. Unless they've lowered prices, I don't buy they are much cheaper.

Pretty much agree with everything else WuDrWu said above.

            • The Donut Whole is officially closed. What was once a place that had some international recognition (mostly thanks to Doctor Who themed donuts) is no more.

I'd heard that the past few years under new ownership hasn't gone well. I've seen comments from people who claimed to work there that said they cared more about the place than the new owners but nothing ever changed and they just kept essentially chasing people away and taking away much of what made the Donut Whole a Wichita staple.

              • Just read an article talking about fast food chains in Wichita, and essentially about those who are building or plan to. This may be a bit of a refresher.

Culver's recently opened near 29th and Maize. Looking for an east side location.

Raising Cane's will be near Ridge and Kellogg and expected to open next summer or early fall. Also scouting for an east side location.

Whataburger has been pushed back to no earlier than 2026 and perhaps 2027.

Hawaiian Bros is expected to open before the end of the year near Chicken N Pickle at 13th and Greenwich. Expected to open at least one more.

Toastique recently opened in Cambridge Market near 21st and Webb.

Small Sliders (Drew Brees) has signed a five-unit deal for the area.

Ziggi's Coffee is expected to open in Derby sometime next year.

Wienerschnitzel is still looking for a franchisee to open three locations.

I'm not sure if Jack in the Box is still planning to enter the Wichita market. I know they announced plans to open something like 25 locations in the metro area at one point, but I believe they were looking for franchisee(s) and that may still be an ongoing issue.

                Sticky Bird has permanently closed.

You did not miss anything IMO. I went once and never had a desire to return.

Took my wife to the Thai Table restaurant (3570 N Woodlawn) for her birthday last night. Our second visit. It was really good both times.

They were on Shark Tank about 10 years ago. They're located in a few major cities, in this case, Kansas City. This is the first time they toured down here. Social media pumped them up. if you follow Wichita by EB, he had all of the details of how it went down. They were at the Lowes on Ridge today and lines went clear across the parking lot, all day from 11 to 7. Some people waited over 4 hours in line. We thankfully got a tip about ordering ahead through the app and got a pickup time and bypassed the line. It was good. Would I have waited 4 hours for a $23 6-inch lobster roll? Absolutely not. But we had to try it once. They have a pretty limited and straightforward menu. They definitely hyped it up.

                              • First time to YaYa's last night for my wife and I's anniversary and the food was fantastic. The risotto is out of this world good. With an appetizer and after the tip, we were sitting at $80 all in. I'm not usually one for fine dining but that doesn't seem too unreasonable for an amazing meal for these days.
