The Shocks have played an exhibition against the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (and no that is not a typo), the Santa Clara Broncos and Sunday, they will host the Texax Pan-American Broncs.
This might be a record playing 3 teams named the Broncos or some variation thereof. (We also played the Wyoming Cowgirls).
No doubt just a coincidence although after the way we played against UC Davis maybe we should think about replacing our Women's BB program with rodeo.
Texas Pan-Am comes in with a 7-6 record and a 259 RPI for a 2:00 pm game on Sunday. The Shocks have an RPI of 230.
They lost by 50 to OU and 53 to Texas. They have 4 D-1 wins against teams with a combined record of 6-28 and an average RPI of 299. The other three wins are against non-DI opponents Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&M International.
TPA is a junior dominated team (7 of 12 team members are juniors).
They are scoring 72.1 PPG led by 5'5" So. Guard Bianca Torre and 6'0" Jr. Guard CeMonay Newell. Between them these ladies are averaging 16 three-point attemtps per game hitting a very good 45.6%. As a team they put up 20 treys per game hitting 45.1%. They shoot 39.6% from inside the arc.
They turn the ball over an average of 20 times per game.
They do have a 6'7" freshman center who has only played 29 minutes on the season so she is obviously a project, although she no doubt will standout during warmups.
I will be real disappointed if the Shocks don't come out with great tenacity and intensity after laying the proverbial egg against UC Davis. Hopefully, they do that and show they can play some good, fundamentally sound, smart, team basketball.
