    Thursday, December 2nd:

Not a particularly stellar night for Valley teams.

Shocks 64 - Santa Clara 49 (see separate thread)

Creighton 79 at South Dakota 70. Shocks travel South Dakota for a game this Sunday.

Northern Illinois 71 - Northern Iowa 64 in Cedar Falls. I would have though UNI would win this one on their home court.

St. Louis 66 - Southern Illinois 39 in Carbondale. Ouch, that one is pretty embarrassing. St. Louis lost by 7 at SIU-Edwardsville, a team the Shocks handled by 26 on the road. At the half SIU had more turnovers (15) than points (13). You won't see that very often.

MVC now 32-26, but tonight's 2-2 split was not especially pretty.

      Friday, December 3rd:

Missouri State 72 - Eastern Michigan 57 in Springfield. Casey Garrison did play 31 minutes so her ankle injury was apparently not too serious.

      Evansville 69 - Valporaiso 67 in Evansville

      Saturday, December 4th:

Indiana State loses on the road to Butler 81-72

Drake wins on the road at North Dakota 76-51

Northern Iowa wins on the road at Wisconsin-Milwaukee 72-58

Bradley 81 - St. Louis 64 in Peoria

      Illinois State 94 - Illinois-Chicago 86 in Normal

Evansville loses at home to Central Michigan 96-83. Shocks face CMU on the road on December 22nd. CMU lost earlier to Drake by 20 on a nuetral court. CMU is averaging 89.5 PPG through 8 games.

      Sunday, December 5th:

Missouri State wins at home over Arkansas State 58-47 despite being outscored 25-17 in the second half. Fortuantely, MSU had a 41-22 lead at the half.

Wichita State falls on the road to South Dakota 57-47

      MVC now 39-29

        Wednesday, December 08:

          Thursday, December 9:

          Missouri State 68 - SIU Edwardsville 39

          Illinois State 77 - Ball State 51

Drake loses to Wisconsin at home 49-60. I was a little disappointed in this one. Thought Drake might have a chance, especially at home.

          MVC 43 - 31.

          Conference RPI is now #11.

            Friday, December 10th:

            Wichita State 67 - Darice Fountaine 25 + Savannah State 16

SIU falls on the road to Oooey-Pooey (IUPUI) 65-48 to drop to 1-7 on the year. 31 turnovers can do that to a team.

            MVC 44-32.

              Saturday, December 11th:

Creighton loses big at #18 Notre Dame 91-54. With the UConn women closing in on the UCLA men's 88 game winning streak which Notre Dame ended in 1974 it would seem that the women are about 35 years behind the men in parity.

Tennessee Tech tops Drake 56-55 in Des Moines on a last second offensive rebound and put back by TT.

Tennessee-Martin over Evansville 63-60 in Evansville.

Northern Iowa 81 - South Dakota State 60 in Cedar Falls.

MVC now at 45-35 and drops to #13 in conference RPI.

The Valley drops two home games tonight.

The Shocks fall to a good UC Davis team 78-66.

SIU loses at home to a so-so Wright State team 75-53 to drop to 1-8 on the year with an RPI of 339. Yikes!

Friday, December 17th (D-1 Record and RPI ranking shown):

Missouri State (8-2)(#71) wins at Coppin State (1-6)(#267) 67-61. Granted it was on the road but a little closer than expected from the MVC favorite. Bears may have been looking past Coppin State to Georgetown.

                    Saturday, December 18th:

                    Evansville (5-4/#190) - 48 @ #23 Green Bay (9-1/#38) - 72

SIU (1-8/#339) - 62 @ Murray State (0-7/#319) - 61; SIU may have avoided falling to the bottom of the RPI rankings with this barn burner.

                    North Dakota (1-6/#260) - 54 @ UNI (6-3/#121) - 78

                    Northern Illinois (5-5/#112) - 48 @ Bradley (6-3/#135) - 57

                    North Dakota State (4-4/#76) - 44 @ Creighton (4-4/#67) - 54

                    Sunday, December 19th:

                    Missouri State (8-2/#71) -59 @ #19 Georgetown (7-3/#18) - 72

                    Indiana State (5-4/#139) - 66 @ Tennessee-Martin (5-5/#118) - 68

                    Texas Pan American (4-6/#259) - 55 @ Wichita State (5-4/#232) - 95

                    MVC 55-41

                      Monday, December 20th:

Creighton wins easily at home over North Dakota 96-57.

Jane Albright's Nevada Wolfpack knocks off Illinois State 87-78 in Cancun, Mexico.

Purdue downs a struggling SIU team 75-36 in West Lafayette.

Drake nearly pulls off an upset of #15 Iowa losing 75-71 in Des Moines after rallying from 11 points down to tie the game at 71 all with 1 minute remaining just missing a marquis win for the MVC.

                      MVC is 56-44

Air Force 61 at Drake 77

                          Kansas 64 at Creighton 58

                          SIU-Edwardsville 68 at Indiana State 86

Evansville 53 at St. Louis 55

                          MVC 60-49.

Everyone except Illinois State will close out their pre-MVC schedules today.

MVC will do well to go 3-3 today. Didn't qet there going 2-4 on the day.

Illinois State closes out the MVC Non-Conference season with a 76-69 home win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The MVC closes out the non-con portion of the schedule at 61-49 (.555) with an RPI rank of 12 out of 31 conferences.

No real marquis wins. There were only 4 quality wins as follows:

                            Creighton (6-5) over #28 Marquette (10-2) at home 63-61

Missouri State (9-3) over #37 Louisiana Tech (6-4) at home 62-53

Evansville (5-6) over #42 Bowling Green at home 63-62

Drake (6-5) over #51 Central Michigan on neutral court 90-70

Drake also played #7 Iowa very tough losing at home 71-75.

MSU has the best RPI at #59. Looks like the MVC Regular Season is for pride, seeding in the MVC Tournament and positioning for possible NIT/WBI play in the event you don't win the post-season tournament. NCAA representation will be determined by the MVC Tournament.

No great or even really good teams in the MVC this year. Shocks are capable of beating any team in the league home or away and they are capable of losing to any team in the league home or away.

Here's how I see it based on pre-conference play:

                            1. Missouri State (RPI -59) PS Rank = 1
                            2. Illinois State (RPI - 81) PS Rank = 4
                            3. Creighton (RPI - 91) PS Rank = 3
                            4. Northern Iowa (RPI 137) PS Rank = 2
                            5. Drake (RPI 160) PS Rank = 7
                            6. Bradley (RPI 133) PS Rank = 6
                            7. Evansville (RPI 203) PS Rank = 10
                            8. Wichita State (RPI 186) PS Rank = 5
                            9. Indiana State (RPI 175) PS Rank = 8
                            10. Southern Illinois (RPI 328) PS Rank = 9

The Shocks are capable of finsihing higher than 6th for sure, but they will need to play better than they showed in pre-conference play.

Edit: Outlook further revised after the WSU's loss to Evansville in the MVC season opener.
