The Shocks, of course, missed a very good opportunity to knock of a BCS team in their heartbreaking loss to Arizona.
Illinois State "may" have the best win of the year with a 69-62 win on the road at Illinois. Not sure how good Illinois is. One danger in WBB is assuming that the Women are good just because their Men are good. Illinois had an RPI of 249 last year and finished at 7-20.
Last night the MVC lost all three games to good opponents:
Drake lost 64-46 to #17 Iowa State in Ames. That is probably about what you would expect.
DePaul defeated MVC favorite MSU 82-66 on MSU's home court. DePaul is supposed to be pretty solid and they are a very experienced group including three 5th year seniors. They are expected to finish in the top half of the Big East (6th out of 16 teams).
Creighton fell on the road to Bowling Green 79-53. Bowling Green is decent having won the last six MAC regular season titles. Still I would expect the team picked #3 in teh MVC to be more competitive in this game. Evansville beat BG at home 63-62 after starting the game on a
16-0 run.
Creighton has not been very impressive early on and may be having trouble filling he void left by the departure of 4 seniors including point guard Chevelle Herring and All-Conference 1st teamer Megan Neuvirth.
The Bluejays defeated Liberty in a very low scoring (40-35) nuetral court game, lost by 13 at North Carolina State (2009-10 RPI of 202) and now the 26 point loss to BG.
A couple of early indications:
1. The MVC will continue to be a 1-Bid conference. Therefore, winning the post-season MVC tournament is the route to the NCAA touranment.
2. Creighton might be a team that the Shocks can move ahead of this year although we have not had a lot of success against the BlueJays in recent years.
