2009-10 Women's Basketball Prediction Contest

What kind of record do you think the Lady Shocker basketball team will finish with this year?

If you want to participate predict the Shocks regular season including non-confernece record, MVC record and overall record. Also guess the average point spread in MVC road games (this will be the tiebreaker) so no duplicate predictions allowed. Winner gets bragging rights.
Predictions must be in by 2:00 PM, Sunday November 15th.

The Shocks have a pretty weak non-con schedule and the only stumbling blocks I see are Colorado State and Kent State on the road and SMU in the Bahamas. In the MVC I think we will double our win total from last year's 4 MVC wins. Two years ago we were absolutely horrible on the road in the MVC losing by an average of 25.2 PPG. Last year we improved to a minus 15.6 PPG differential (thanks to a 2 point road win over Bradley 2 nights after losing by 32 to UNI). I think we will improve on that stat again this year.

My predictions:

MVC Road Game Avg Margin: Minus 8.7 PPG

I will say that after seeing the Ladies at Shocker Madness and in their Exhibition vs Newman I would not be at all surprised if they don't exceed these expectations. However, we are very inexperienced and I'm still not sure how good our interior game on both ends of the floor will hold up.

While this is the most optimistic precition so far, I don't think it is outlandish at all. If this team progresses faster than anticipated they can reach these totals.

Even more optimism! I like it, but maybe just a little too optimistic, but I you never know. We are pretty much working with a blank canvas with this team and anything could happen.

This is my KcShox worst case scenario prediction.

I would like to take this time to publicly admit that KcShox is much smarter than I.....also that I have only rose (or yellow) tinted glasses and could not possibly give an accurate prediction of anything Shocker related.

I am awarded no points, and may God have mercy on my soul.


I will now revise my prediction to 4-7 and 2-16 with an average road margin of -24.5 (I do think there is a chance to improve).

Well, I didn't expect an 85-60 loss to CSU. :(

I had CSU as one of my non-conference losses, but I was expecting us to be much more competitive than that.

Hopefully, it will be a hard-learned lesson for our newcomers and let's hope that they are quick studies.

Could be that some of us have over-valued the potential and under-valued the inexperience of this team.
