I have a question for thought! Why wasn't the administration terminated for allowing Jane Albright to coach, the team to such poor seasons. If Endicott knew the team was in poor shape, physically and mentally, why did it take 4-5 years to fire Albright. Personally I would have; discarded an adminstrator as well, when Jane left. This isn't the first sport we have endured poor coaching, for whatever adminstrations reasons. Sometimes the buck needs to stop a little higher up the totem pole, for making poor decisions.

Hopefully, Eric Sexton will not let this program get out of control and gets a handle on what is going on and corrects any shortcomings.

I'm wondering if Jody maybe isn't on secret double probation.

Anymore accusations of abuse, racism and cheating from a group of players would certainly lead indicate we have a significant problem and would validate the claims of the departing players. (Although, the lack of more complaints does not mean the complaints of departing players are invalid.)

Clearly, Jody does not have a high tolerance for losing and maybe her competitveness and desire to win clouded her judgement in certain areas. Maybe Jody did not realize how far down the program was, but she doesn't seem like the type of personality that can tolerate a slow, steady rebuilding process.

I will probably renew my season tickets for this coming season, but I think I will hold off on renewing my High Hoops Club membership until that extra support has been earned on and off the court.

Crossing my fingers that a year from now we are not having the same discussion.

If a team has 9 players of one race and 4 of another. It's difficult to even notice. If a team has 6 players of one race and 7 of another, it's difficult to notice. If a team is all black or all white, it is instantly noticable. If that is a trend that continues, it is probably racist. The practice time issue, which sounds legit to me, is an NCAA probation issue, and needs to be addressed NOW.

shocks10 - jane was not fired because she was too 'buddy-buddy' with schaus. they were great friends and jim didn't want to get rid of her, despite her more then putrid record.

Wow, leave town for a few days and things can get interesting.

            Here's my two cents:

If one or two people say you've got a tail, no big deal. Three or four, you'd at least better turn around and look. While my support for my home town team is unwavering, like 1972, I will be watching closely to determine how much support beyond season tickets and attending games that the program merits down the road.

I hope leadership will be watching closely, too, to see if the concerns raised by the former players continue to surface. (In any event, playing with a team of J. Adams' own making should at the very least stop the ongoing bashing of the previous coach. Please, move on already, people.)

While J. Adams has recruited some highly touted talent, it's my hope that these young women will be student athletes, and not just athletes going to college simply to play ball. Their end-of-year GPAs, along with the team's win-loss record, will help determine that, but it's not something that's knowable until the end of the '09-'10 season.

I also agree with TMH that there absolutely was a tremendous culture shock when J. Adams replaced J. Albright...one leadership instituted by design. Consequently, I would have liked to have seen greater willingness to release players who didn't sign on for Adams' style of play and coaching to play D1 ball elsewhere.

There is an interesting discussion on this at SalukiTalk. http://salukitalk.net/st/viewtopic.php?t=27842
I think Bob Lutz has it right when he says "It's what happens from here that matters most. I hope, for Adams' sake, that we have heard the last of this kind of stuff."

I think the SIU fans would agree. As DawgFan said,
"You simply can't lose as many players as Dana did over the course of five years and win and/or keep your job. Especially when you also ruin relationships with high school programs in the region. If Jody keeps losing players, she wont win either."

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Deb Patterson, rightly or wrongly, has had her share of defections among players and assistant coaches. She won the Big XII last year and all the hoorah has faded. Funny how winning takes care of all that. If the WSU coach can win in the incredibly weak MVC all this will fade also. If not she will be history,.

It's funny watching KSuck fail miserably in the Big 12 in nearly every athletic program.

That is a good point BCScat. If Jody keeps getting recruiting classes like this one we could be winning the Valley in no time. Also, when you considering how weak the league is at this point it could happen in dominating fashion. We will see. I think there is always some difficultly when you introduce such different coaching styles to a team. Time will tell if Jody is doing things right. I would say at this point she is and I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. I also agree that fans are much more willing to forgive and forget when your in the NCAA's every year. Deb Patterson has had her share of bumps in the road, but she wins year in and year out.

Hmmmmmmm? She does the winning with a lot of those "3 car garage players who have less pigmentation than I do".

I'm not saying....I'm just saying!

I would really be worried if Jody was a carbon copy of Jane. Jane, while looking good on paper, couldn't make things work on the court. And Jody, while having short term success (she may have fell into it), still needs to prove her long term worth as a coach.

Coaches have a great deal of pressure on themselves to perform, because that is pretty much how they are judged, by their win-loss records. When you have the job of turning the program around to go forward, you can not worry all the time if you are going to hurt someone's feelings. We all know that some players are probably too touchy/feely anyway.

We all know that some of Jane's recruits did not perform on the court like they were expected too. Part of the problem is they were not talented enough, and part of the problem was Jane's, but Jane did not make the changes needed to correct the problem. Jody is making changes, and she needs to be given a chance to show improvement ... plain and simple.

Most winning coaches I have known or even heard about are not known for being a softie, they are usually very demanding, constantly challenging, and expect the very best at all times.

I don't know about other posters, but I take exception to a coaches poor recruiting of players which usually lead to mediorce performances on the court. When you have constant 'recruiting busts', someone is not doing their job very well.

The other thing that upsets me is the LACK OF FEEDBACK we get about the women's team and about their players.

I had an interesting conversation with one of the parents of a player who is leaving the WBB program. Of course, one should take all comments (including mine) with a big grain of salt.

Jody's job is to win; if she does win and if her student-athletes graduate, I think she will last here.

However, from what I have heard (from different sources including this parent, students with a connection to the program, etc.), Jody isn't a very nice person.

Driven, goal oriented, etc.? Yes. Nice? No. Given that Jane was a "nice person" and one can see how she did, I'm not certain what to think.

BTW: What did you think of Jacie Hoyt's play at WSU?

i honestly could care less if she's nice or not. Her job is to produce a winner. Theres a reason that a slogan was made about nice guys always finish last.

You can be nice and not win. We had one of those.

You can be nice and win. Those people exist - we have them as coaches in our athletic department now.
