Considering we were outhit 14-4 I suppose we were very fortunate that it was that close. Brianna must have been in trouble throughout the game.
Missouri State had ten LOB in six innings. This is a fairly typical performance for Breezy - she allows lots of baserunners. Well, maybe just a few more baserunners than normal today, but people do get on against her.

We scored on back-to-back doubles by Kiersten and Kara in the sixth.

Interestingly, the Bears chose to start their freshman pitcher (Natalie Rose) against us, but we did not use Kasha against them.
I believe Natalie Rose is Mo State's #2 or #3 pitcher. So it looks like both teams didn't want to use their #1 against a conference team. If I am Pooch, I think I would rather run Kasha out there and get myself a win. But then again I am coaching from a cozy office chair in front of a computer.
Hmmm, looking at the MSU stats, there may be three #2 pitchers. I assumed the order was McGinley, Rose, Supak, but there may be no order yet. But Supak getting the start against Butler makes her their #3 for now for me. Nevertheless, I still think you are guaranteed to see Rose at some point in the conference when we play the DH with them, just as they are guaranteed to see Kasha. So now we see Rose for the second time and they see Kasha for the first time. Whether it makes any difference at all remains to be seen.
I agree, that is why I would have thrown Kasha and tried to get a win. At least that way we have a mental advantage going into the conference contests. However, I can see why Pooch would rather go for a better chance to beat a Big 12 team (Iowa State). Again, it is easy for me to second guess from my computer.

      Oh, wow!!!!

Lauren hits a three-run shot in the top of the seventh to send the Shocks ahead of North Texas, 6-5. :yahoo: It was preceded by a run-scoring single by Holly Eckert.

      A two-out homer at that.

Looking to end the weekend on a sour note, the Shox entered the top of the 7th trailing the Mean Green of North Texas 5-2.

6 batters later WSU takes a 6-5 lead off the bat of Laura Coleman who hits a 3 run homer.

Kasha tries to win it now in the bottom of the inning.

Shocks down to North Texas 5-2 entering the Top of the 7th when the Shocks rallied for 4 runs capped by Lauren Coleman's 2-out, 3-run homer to take a 6-5 lead.

Can Shocks hang on for a come from behind win?

Trying to follow game and watch my 3 young grandsons. Obviously I am too old and slow for that!

Kasha gives up 2 solo homers in the bottom of the 7th to lose it.

                    Norht Texas 7 - Shockers 6.

                    Tough loss. :(

Kasha gives up a one-out and then a two-out homer. Shocks lose, 7-6.

And I was hoping she had given up that habit.

Whatever confidence Kasha may have gained with her two strong outings earlier this weekend may have been shattered by today's loss. That is really a tough way to lose a game. The kind of loss that will give you nightmares.

Now I think I will go drown my disappointment in a brewski.

Though Kasha suffered a tough loss, she (and Coach Burris, who works with the pitchers) need to concentrate on the progress she is making. She held Iowa State, who along with North Texas finished with a 4-1 record, to one run and three hits, by far the best performance of the tournament against them.

WOW! after reading some the comments posted on this site I can now say I know why my daughter did not want me to come onto this site.... :-x

Kasha has had much sucess at everything she attempts and I believe she will at WSU also...Yes she has not had the show stopping start she would of liked to have had...but I have seen a huge improvement from Arizona to North Texas... :good:

I think Heather is doing a wonderful job calling the game from behind the plate I would like to see the whole zone worked a little more but she knows which pitches are working..and hopefully by our conference games we will have confindence in all the pitches our girls have to offer.....

And for all you of who dont Kasha except threw the internet she has always accomplished everything she every wanted and done it quite well...For the comments i have read on here about her coming from small ball Kasha has always played at the highest level available...She even got to experience pitching to the Chinese Olympic team last summer which she only gave up 3 hits none of them by the way were homeruns....they only scored 1 run in 6 innings pitched....She played gold ball with the Tulsa Eagles Gold and defeated many of the power house hitting teams and was very sucessful at leading her team... :yahoo:

I am proud to say we are Shocker parents but blessed to say I am Kashas mom....I love you kid keep working hard and it WILL come it always does.....Nice job to all of you ladies I have seen great moments from many of you..... 8) WORK THEM HARD COACHES!!!! WE READY FOR THE GOOD STUFF......

First, thanks so much for the additional pre-WSU background for Kasha.

Next, I think most posters in general have tried to be supportive of Kasha and WSU softball. Where there has been disappointment expressed (I now wish I had used an emoticon in that recent post), I know that it pales in comparison to the disappointment she feels. She is a competitive athlete who has worked hard to achieve what has been done to this point in her softball career and will continue to work hard. As noted in several posts, I think she will make the necessary adjustments and have a fine career as a Shocker.

But to put things in perspective, allow me to make another note about Kasha and her time at Wichita State. I actually hope she does better academically than she does on the field. Being able to play the sport you love is one thing, but preparing yourself to be a solid citizen and a contributor to society - whether that be by finding a cure for the common cold or by being a terrific mom - is ultimately more important. Athletics is one thing, but the life-lessons learned from playing athletics is a better thing.

Believe me, we want her to do well - not as fervently as a proud parent - but we truly want her to do well.
