This could be a make or break year for our coach. He is finally done with the Tim Walton leftovers and has to be able to produce with his own recruits. If we don't finish over .500, he will be seriously evaluated at the end of the year.
I would tend to agree and although Tim Walton would be a very tough act to follow, you have to look at the direction of the program since he left. As the Walton players graduate, the Shocks have steadily declined, in spite of the fact that Pooch had a better pitcher (Ashley Bright) than Walton had.
I have my theories as to why, and most is based on talking to players who played for both coaches, but I won't go into the details. All I can say is that the inmates seem to run the asylum.
I think Creighton got one of Butlers players. And I loved Ashley Bright too. There was a real competitor. Cowley's catcher though would be a big pickup. She hit 29 homers last year and led the national junior college ranks in RBI's.
I wouldn't exactly say off limits. I think if a Mustang player wanted to be a Shocker, it can happen.
From what I was able to find out, the Butler player is freshman infielder Blair Brooks. She is being recruited by Creighton, Auburn, and Iowa State. She is supposedly leaning more towards Creighton.
The two Cowley kids are Young and Juden. Young will have a difficult time with qualifying academically. Juden is pretty focused on her boyfriend (which is why she left Univ of Ark after just one week) but if she decided to continue her softball career would be a good one for WSU.
