The singles are not going the Shockers way so far.
7th ranked Arianne Harttono didn't allow Fatima to pull the upset today as she took the #1 singles 6-0, 6-2 to pull OIe Miss even in the match at 1-1.
It's a best of 5 matches now and Ole Miss is leading in 3 of those with the other 2 heading to a 3rd set. Shocks will nees some come from behind magic to pull the upset today.

The Shocks now trail 3-1 after dropping the 3rd and 6th flight singles. They need to win all 3 of the remaining matches to pull the upset and move to the Sweet 16.
Those matches are:
#3 Giulia Guidetti vs #79 Sabina Machalova (6-4, 1-6, 5-2) - Giulia unable to finish it off losing 5 consecutive games to fall 5-7 in the 3rd set to close out the match for Ole Miss at 4-2.
#4 Gabriela Porubin vs Natalie Suk (6-3, 3-6, 4-3) - Gabriela wins her 3rd set 7-5 to make it 3-2.
#5 Marta Belllucco vs vs Alexa Bortles (4-6, 5-3. 1-2)
Heartbreaking loss for Giulia and the Shockers but this team has nothing to be ashamed off. No question that Ole Miss knows the Lady Shocks gave them eveyrthing they could give.
Congratulations ladies on a great season against a very tough schedule.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 12, 2018, 08:24 PM.

Head Coach Colin Foster on the match and the season for the Shockers:
"I just couldn't be more proud of this team. They played great doubles again, which put us in another position to be successful. Ole Miss is a top team, and they are hosting for a reason. They came out and took four first sets, but we didn't give in on any court. We kept plugging away and trying to create opportunities, and we did. It was just a great college tennis match. GIulia and Gabriela have met so much to this program. Both have come through in matches like this a lot. I feel terrible for Giulia that this was her last match, but because of how well she's represented Wichita State, along with the whole team I'm really proud of them. Just came up a little bit short against a top-ranked team. There is a lot to be proud of in that effort.
-Giulia Guidetti ends her career with 96 career singles wins, and a 4-3 record in the NCAA Tournament
-Gabriela Porubin finishes with 103 career doubles wins, with a 5-0 record in doubles play at the NCAA Tournament
-Fatima Bizhukova ends the season with two top-10 victories, and a 5-1 record in the NCAA TournamentOXFORD, Miss. – Wichita State's late rally fell short, as they fell in a hard-fought battle to No. 5 overall-seed Ole Miss, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at the Palmer-Salloum Tennis Center.

Wichita State senior Giulia Guidetti is the winner of the Central Region's 2018 Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today.
The Cissie Leary Award is given annually to a Division I women's tennis player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. The award dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women's tennis coach Cissie Leary.
"Giulia always represents herself with the utmost professionalism. In practice and competition she works and fights hard, but always with fairness and respect for her opponents, teammates, officials, coaches, etc.", head coach Colin Foster said.
Congratulations Giulia. The Shockers will no doubt miss her contributions on and off the court. Another great example of the kind of student-athletes we are forunate to have representing the Shockers.
