Wichita State will travel to Oxford, Miss. next weekend to compete in First and Second Round action in the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championship.

The Shockers (18-7) are making their 10th consecutive appearance in the field of 64 and their 12th overall. They'll will meet Syracuse on Friday, May 11 with the winner advancing to Saturday's Second Round to face either top-seed Mississippi or Missouri State. Match times will be announced later.

Syracuse (17-7, 8-6 ACC) is ranked No. 27 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings.

"Syracuse is strong," WSU Coach Colin Foster said. "They upset Georgia Tech, which is a top-5 team. The ACC is probably a top-2 conference, along with the SEC, so they'll be battle tested."

Nice piece by Sully on Shoicker seniro Gabriela Porubin and also talks a little about the different feel going into the NCAA's as an at-large after playing a much tougher schedule down the stretch than they did when locked in to MVC conference matches. We'll see if that makes a difference today.

She noticed Myrtle at matches and wanted to explain his dedication to tennis, softball and other women's sports. "He is so intentional and devoted to supporting us," she said. "He doesn't care that he's the only one in the crowd. I liked that story a lot because it's something people don't really know about."

Very nice facilities at Ole Miss.

Gabriela and Sarvi win the 3rd flight doubles 6-1. The other 2 flights are tied at 4-4.

Fatima and Marto pick off two games to close out the 1st flight with a 6-4 win and give the Shocks the doubles point.

Ting and Giulia were leading the 2nd flight 6-5 when the Shocks clinched.

Good start of the Shocks. The doubles point can be critcal in a high level match between similarly ranked opponets. (Sysracuse is #27 and the Shocks are ranked #35).

Our #72-ranked doubles team "embarrassed" their #8-ranked doubles team. Hopefully our singles will do just enough to capitalize on the double point.

If that doesn't work out, I would be ok with the singles going ahead and embarrassing them, too.

WSU's Bizhukova (#72) takes the first set against SU's Knutson (#5), 6-1. Knutson is the one who made the "embarrassed" comment.

Guidetti and Honigova are in good shape, up 4-0 and 4-1, respectively, in their 2nd sets.

Edit: Make that 5-1 and 5-0.

Bizhukova looks to be outmatched in the 2nd set, yet leads 4-3. Her opponent is sending a lot of should-be winners into the net.

When you are ranked #5 in the nation you probably aren't used to trailing in a match.

From what I've seen, it seems Bizhukova is keeping Knutson in the points longer than she likes, gets frustrated and over-hits.

Knutson is her own worst enemy in this match.

My guess is that was a game plan based on a scouting report. But you still have to be good enough to execute the game plan and looks like Fatima did that to perfection.

Guidetti gives WSU the 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win in #2.
