The Shocks fell from #27 to #33 in this weeks Top 50 ITA Rankings. Tulsa moved up from #32 to #23 and UCF rounds out the ranked AAC teams at #25. The tennis rankings are kind of interesting as they are based on a poll of the ITA National Ranking Committee for the 1st 5 weeks of the season then they convert to a Computer Ranking System that uses predetermined point system the scores wins and losses depending on the ranking or lack thereof of the teams you play.

The Shockers defeated Iowa 5-2 this morning at the Coleman Tennis Center to move to 14-5 on the year.

WICHITA, Kan.-  No. 33 Wichita State blew by Iowa, 5-2,  Friday morning at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex to move to 14-5 on the season.

Next Friday the Shockers head to Stillwater to face #12 Okahoma State then head over to Norman for a Sunday match against #49 OU.

Not surprisingly the Lady Shocks fell on the road to 13th ranked Oklahoma State today 4-0. But that score perhaps doesn't tell the full store.

The Shocks won the #3 doubles 6-1. The fell in the #2 doubles 3-6. OSU took the doubles point with a 7-5 win in #1 doubles. Each team won 14 games.

OSU closed out the Shocks with a 6-3, 6-3 win in #4 singles, a 6-3, 6-2 win in #5 singles and a 6-0, 7-5 win by 16th ranked Vladica Babic in #1 singles.

In the 3 unfinished singles matches Shocker Sandra Honigova was leading 7-6, 4-3 over the 42 ranked OSU player in #2 singles, OSU was up 6-4, 5-5 in #3 singles and #6 singles was tied at 1 set each.

So all in all the Shocker were pretty competitive with the highly ranked Cowgirls.

STILLWATER- No. 13 Oklahoma State struck early and knocked off 35th ranked Wichita State, 4-0, Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Is there anything happening in Serbia these days besides tennis? Did a convoy of semis carry headbands & sweatbands break down on the A1 20 years ago?

Perhaps they've evolved and now settle their ethic disputes with Slazenger and Rossignol instead of guns and bombs.

I don't know Doc but there were no Serbians in this match. The Shocks had two Italians, a Russian, a Czech, a Moldovan and an Uzbeki.
Oklahoma State had a Montenegron, a Slovakian, a Spaniard, an Argentinian, an Israeli and believe it or not a Californian.

The question is not so much what is happening in Serbia these days but what is not happening in the United States in the sport of tennis. Seems like we used to be pretty good at that sport. I would blame it on soccer but these other countries play a little bit of soccer as well.

At least we can pronounce the head coach's name.

Shocks pick up a nice 5-2 win over #44 Oklahoma in Norman today to gain a split of the tough weekend road trip to OSU and OU. It was only the 6th time WSU has beaten OU in 39 tries.

Shocks played pretty well this weekend. Apparently, Coach Foster wasn't real pleased after the loss to Tulsa and had a heart-to-heart with the Ladies that seems to have had the desired effect.

"It was really a complete team performance in both matches this weekend. After the disappointing performance at Tulsa, this team…both players and coaches; individually and as a whole, did dome serious soul searching and had some uncomfortable conversations. I feel we have really emerged as a stronger, closer, more resilient group. Even on Friday (against No. 13 Oklahoma State) in defeat, we were playing with belief and great energy and that carried into today.

No. 34 Wichita State (15-6) closes out its challenging regular season schedule with two home matches against No. 36 Kansas State and No. 19 Central Florida, Friday and Sunday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. Not sure if they will try to play these matches outdoors or move to a backup indoor facility either at Genesis or WCC.

Then it is on to the AAC Championships in Dallas at the SMU Tennis Complex starting next Wednesday.

#36 Kansas State at #34 Wichita State

The Shocks grab the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the 1st flight and a 6-2 in the 2nd flight and the Shocks were leading 5-3 in the 3rd flight when he point was clinched.

On to the singles where the Shocks need to win 3 of 6 to take the match.

                  Shocker Fatima B. cruises in #1 singles 6-1, 6-1 as does Giulia G. in #3 singles 6-0, 6-3. However Marta B. got stomped in #4 singles 0-6, 0-6.

Shocks lead 3-1. The remaing 3 matches are pretty tight and all still up for grabs.

Gabriela P. comes through in #5 singles clinching the match with a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 win.

                  Shocks 4 - K-State 1

The regular season finale on Sunday at noon against felllow AAC member and #19 Central Florida will be interesting. Today's match went inside at Genesis due to the high winds. Not sure if a decsion as been made on Sunday's match yet. UCF is the highest ranked team in the AAC, Tulsa is next at #29 followed the the Shockers at #34. UCF is playing at Tulsa this evening at 5:00 pm.

A look at the careers of the two Shocker seniors who will be playing their final home match tomorrow against #19 UCF at noon.

                    https://twitter.com/GoShockersWTEN/s...61369082699776

I assume this match will be moved indoors tomorrow with the weather conditions. At Genesis I assume but I have not seen anyhting official on that.

BTW, #29 Tulsa beat #19 UCF 4-2 in Tulsa yesterday evening so they may not be in a partying mood for the match with the Shockers.

The Shocks won the #3 doubles 6-2 but dropped both the #1 and #2 doubles by identical 6-3 scores as UCF take a 1-0.

The Shocks are now faced with trying to win 4 of 6 singles matches against the 19th ranked team in the country. Tough chore.

Shocker Sr. Gabriella Porubin dropped the 1st set in the #4 singles 0-6 but came back to win the 2nd and 3rd sets 6-3. 6-3 to tie the score at 1-all.

UCF won the #6 signles in a tight match 75, 6-4 to regain the lead at 2-1.

Shocks need 3 of the remaining 4 singles matches. All 4 of the remaining matches have gone to a 3rd set.

Shocker Sr. Giulia Guidetti falls in the #3 singles 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 as UCF goes up 3-1. Shocks need all 3 of the remaining matches but are trailing 1-4 in the 3rd set of the #5 singles.

UCF finishies off the win the the #5 singles with a 6-3 win in the 3rd set to close out the match 4-1 over the Shocks.

The #1 and #2 singles were both at 6-6 in the 3rd set when UCF clinched the match.

A close, tough loss for the Lady Shocks. Maybe they will get another shot at UCF in the AAC Championships.

UCF will be the #1 seed in the AAC Championshps starting Wednesday, April 18th in Dallas at the SMU Tennis Center. Tulsa is the #2, the Lady Shocks are the #3 seed and USF is the #4 seed. The top 4 seeds all have 1st round byes as the #5 thru #12 seeds play on Wednesday.

The Shocks will open up play on Thursday at 3:00 pm against the winner of the Houston (#6) and UConn (#11) match. Houston has a 19-3 records which suggests a relatively weak schedule if they are the 6 seed.

This is a single elimination Tournament.

Suily with a really nice Pre-AAC Championhsip article on the Lady Shockers tennis team.

I think this article points our our very fortunate we are to have Colin and Kewa Foster leading this program.

I might go so far as to say the Kewa Foster and Shannon Lamb are our two most underrated assets in

#6 seeded Houston (20-3) handled #11 seed UConn with ease on Wednesday and will take on the #3 seeded Shockers (16-7) today with that match now scheduled for a 4:15 pm start.

                            Live Stats

Gabriela and Sarvinoz come back for an early 0-2 deficit to take the #3 doubles 6-3.

Ting-Ya and Giulia win the #2 doubles 6-4 and the Shocks grab a 1-0 lead.

Fatima and Marta were leading the #1 doubles when the point was clinched.

Need to win 3 of the 6 singles matches to advance.

The singles lineup for the Shockers is:
                            #1 So. Fatima Bizhukova (2-6, 5-7)
                            #2 Jr. Sandra Honigova (1-6, 4-6)
                            #3 Sr. Giulia Guidetti (6-2, 4-6, 6-1)
                            #4 Sr. Gabriela Porubin (6-2,6-4)
                            #5 So. Marta Bellucco (2-5, 7-5, 6-1)
                            #6 So. Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva (3-6, 6-3, 6-5)

Match Score: Wichita State 4 - Houston 2

Not a great start for the Shocks in singles play. Need one of the underclassmen to step up their game.

Shocks lose at #1 and #2 in straight sets. Now have the tough task of winning 3 of the remaining 4 matches.

Gabriela gets one of the in #4 singles. Need 2 more.

Giulia gest the second one in the #3 singles. One more from either Marta or Sarvinoz.

And Marta gets it done with a storng 3rd set in the #5 singles.

Very tough match. I don't know if losiing this match would have cost the Shocks a shot at an NCAA at-large but it may well have. But they came through. Whether or not this match secures that at-large bid is hard to say. I think it may have.

The Shocks will play #2 seed Tulsa tomorrow at 3:00 pm. We'll see if the Shocks can play better tomorrow than last month when Tulsa beat them 7-0 in Tulsa. Here is the box score from that match.

#3 seeded Wichita Staate (20-3) vs #3 seed Tulsa - AAC Semi-Finals. Can the Shocks gain revenge form the beating Tulsa gave them 1 month ago in Tulsa?

The match between Tulsa and the UCF men is in the 3rd set of the final singles match. The Shocker and Tulsa women will start 30 minutes after completion of that set. Probably looking at about a 4:00 pm start.

                              Live Stats

                              Doubles lineup for the Shockers:

#1 Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco (7-5) :friendly_wink:

#2 Ting-Ya Hsu and Giulia Guidetti (5-6) Unfinished

#3 Gabriela Proubin and Savinoz Saidhujaeva (6-1) :smile-new:

Shocks grab the double points. Already ahead of where they were against Tulsa last month. Now can they win 3 singles matches?

The singles lineup for the Shockers is:
                              #1 So. Fatima Bizhukova (1-6, 2-6) :(
                              #2 Jr. Sandra Honigova (6-3, 3-6) Unfinished
                              #3 Sr. Giulia Guidetti (6-2, 7-5) :smile-new:
                              #4 Sr. Gabriela Porubin (0-6, 2-6) :frown-new:
                              #5 So. Marta Bellucco (3-6, 6-3, 4-6) :(
                              #6 So. Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva (2-6, 3-6) :(

Match Score: Wichita State 2 - Tulsa 4

Not sure what they are doing with the scoring but it's at best delayed stats as opposed to live stats.

I have to go. Doesn't look like the Shocks are going to get this done but it's not over until it's over.

Shocks fall 4-2. Played a very tough schedule this year and did reasonably well. Hopefully, they will get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournmament.
