Any new info regarding bringing in new ladies to add to the team, we lost 6 players and need to replace them with some talented ladies who are ready to step in make the 3 point shoot consistently, drive to the rim with confidence an no fear, and playmakers that make others great. Other then the 6'2 young lady coach birch signed I haven't heard anything new

The Lady Shocks only recruit in the Class of 2017, 6-3 Lauren Brocke out of Boise, Idaho has asked for and been granted her LOI release and will be attending Colorado State instead. I wish her luck.
Not sure how big a get she was for the Lady Shocks. She averaged 9.8 PPG and 6.5 RPG this past season. Okay numbers but not perhaps that outstanding for a 6-3 high school player.
However, it does add to the dearth of players that the Shocks will have after the 8 seniors on next year's roster move on.
So right now Coach K has 10 players returning assuming Jaleesa Chapel makes it back and no other defections among returning players. As things stand right now only Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage and Kayla Williams will remain from the Jody Adams' players at the end of next season.
Coach K will have as many as 5 scholarships to use this year and an additional 8 next year assuming no redshirts of existing players which would seem unlikely.

Maybe she can pick off a transfer or two here and there.
A lot easier to fill in holes with Juco players in the men's game than it is in the women's game. A lot more quality players are available on the men's side.
One thing Coach Keitha will have to offer is an abundance of playing time to compete for.

I worry about going the JUCO route as I feel like it hasn't been that successful on a regular basic. Of course there are exceptions. I also have no idea how recruiting for UTEP will compare. I do like the fact that she has ties to Texas. I'd also like to see a coach who could stop letting the best area talent get away. I know some just like to go. But I'd still like to regularly be in the conversation.

Not a proponent of this, but it happens anyway (think MT). Coach KA has had a long, successful run at UTEP. Because of this, she has built a good rep for herself and I'm sure she has a lot of very good recruiting beds. She is now going to be coaching in the same league as UConn. The AAC and UConn are a draw for recruits. Even though she may not have been the lead recruiter and that assistant that was may very well get the UTEP job, players sign on for a coach. She will be the judge if any of these signees or future year targets meet up to the standards of the AAC, because there will be those that want to go with her. Even future players, that maybe UTEP was just not quite the draw that WSU in the AAC is, will now reconsider KA and her program.
She only needs a few of these players to ease the numbers pressure.

Their still remains some uncertainty about next year as well. 8 of the 10 players on that could return next year were at the press conference today. The 2 that weren't were, I think, Diamond Lockhart and Jaleesa Chapel both of whom will be 5th year seniors and both of whom might have their degrees this spring or perhaps this summer. If that happens both could decide to transfer under the graduate transfer rules and finish their final year of eligibility elsewhere or just move on to the next phase of their lives. I have no idea if they are considering those options or not.
I still think she probably brings in a couple of Jucos this year and a couple more next year plus any Freshman recruits she is able to reel in. Has former Wichita South standout Kirea Rogers who was a sophomore at Hutch Juco signed with anyone this year? If not, I would love to see HCKA get on her. She averaged 12 and 8 as a sophomore at Hutch this year in 21 minutes per game. That would be a great start on keeping the local talent at home.
I would like to see 2 Jucos and 3 Freshman this year and the same next year. In 2018-19, assuming no redshirts, we would have 3 Freshman, 3 Sophomores, 3 Juniors and 3 Seniors. She could have as many as 3 additional scholarship players if she wanted a full 15 player roster.
After that build with 4-year players as much as possible.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 19, 2017, 10:48 PM.
