    Game Four

    Nicholls State v Shockers

Katie has the start, so I am leaning a bit toward a nicked-up Bailey. McKenzieA is in center field again, so I am also wondering if Ashley is hurt. McKenzie pinch-hit and doubled in the fourth inning of the UTA game yesterday, so maybe she is getting a longer look. Landry, the ace for the Colonels, has their start.

Katie gives up a pair of two-out singles, but the next batter flies out to end the top of the first. The Shocks get runners on first and third with one out on a hit plus error by Kelli and an infield single by Macklin but cannot score.

    No score after one.

Makes sense. Hopefully, nothing too significant if that is the case.

An error followed by a bunt single by Ryleigh get two Shockers aboard in the second, but no one can push them across.

        No score after two.

In the third, Kelli reaches third on a bunt single, stolen base and sac bunt. But neither Laurie nor Paige can get her home. Katie has given up three singles and has four strike outs through three.

          Still no score.

The Shockers take the lead in the fourth with a two-out, solo homer by Ryleigh, her first as a Shock. In the top half of the inning, the Colonels are credited with a double to the catcher. Nobody covered second base on a bunt or little uncaught pop up in the infield? Curious.

            Shockers lead 1-0 after four.

Shockers tack on two more runs in the fifth. Mackenzie leads off with a single but is caught stealing. Kelli follows with a bunt single (the third of the game for the Shocks) and Macklin walks. After Nicholls State changes pitchers, Laurie grounds into a force out, but Paige delivers a two-out double to score two.

                Shocks lead 3-0 after five.

In NCAA, you can run past first base, turn either direction and walk back to first base down the base line. Until you retouch first base, you can legally break for second base without penalty. But this is a standard tactic, so hopefully the Shocks were not taken in by it.

Clutch hit by Paige. Shocks needed it.

In the sixth and the top of the order for the Colonels, Katie gives up three single, one of the infield variety, to give up a run. With two outs, a walk and an error get Mackenzie and Kelli aboard but not across home plate.

We move to the seventh with the Shockers ahead 3-1.

Ashley takes over in center field for McKenzie in the top of the seventh, suggesting that McKenzie was in the lineup for her offense.

The Colonels get an unearned run in the seventh (error, walk, two-out single), but one run is not enough.

                          Nicholls State 2-3 Shockers

Katie gives up only one earned run on eight hits and one walk. She struck out seven. Paige had the double that drove in two runs, and Ryleigh had a homer to start the Shocker scoring among her two hits. Kelli had three singles. The Shockers had eight hits total.

Tomorrow morning is a rematch with the Colonels.

Yeoman's work by Katie this weekend. She had to be getting a bit tired at the end the Nicholls State game today.

                              Other Saturday Games

                              UMKC 0-4 UT Arlington
Clakley pitched a four-hit shutout, her second of the tournament. The Shockers game with the Mavs last night is their only meeting of the tournament, so they will not see her.

                              Nicholls State 5-3 UT Arlington
Clakley, on in relief for the Mavs, gives up two unearned runs and is the losing pitcher in this one. Landry, also in relief, gets the win.

                                Game 3 underway.

Shocks get an infield single from Kelli Spring, she advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and after Macklin Hitz struck out, Laurie Derrico brought her home with a 2 out single. 1-0 Shocks going to the last of the 1st. Katie is in the circle again.
