The Lady Shocks are taking on K-State in Manhattan this afternoon. The match, initially schedule for Saturday, was move up one day due to weather concerns.

WSU won the #1 doubles match 6-3. KSU won the #2 doubles match 6-2. WSU after trailing early in the #3 doubles match rallied to win in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4).

Shocks lead 1-0 with singles play just starting.

    Live Stats

Shocks need to win 3 of the 6 singles matches to win the match.

The Shocks won Set 1 in the #1, #3, #4 and #6 singles. KSU took set won in the #2 and #5 singles.

Jr. Giulia Guidetti cruises to a 6-2, 6-0 win in #1 singles. Shocks lead 2-0

Fr. Fatima Bizhukova also cruises to a 6-1, 6-1 win in #4 singles. Shocks lead 3-0

KSU appears to have the upper hand in #5 singles and the other 3 matches are tight and could go either way. Those other 3 may well go to a 3rd set. Shocks need to pick off one of these matches to close out a win.

KSU wins #5 singles 6-4, 6-3 to cut the Shocks' lead to 3-1.

#2, #3 and #6 signles are all going to 3 sets. Shocks still looking for the clinching win.

Jr. Gabriela Porubin poivides the clincher with a 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4 win in #3 singles. Shocks 4-1.

Looks like they decided not to finish the two remaining matches. The Shocks were down 1-2 in Set 3 in #2 signles but led 3-0 in Set 3 of the #6 singles.

WICHITA, Kan. -- The No. 50 Wichita State women's tennis team will head to Tulsa to challenge the No. 35-ranked Tulsa Hurricane tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

I suppose we could but do we really want to tempt irritating the Conference Realignment Gods this close to Decision Friday. Plus we beat then #43 SMU on March 10th.

I think we can call it a good sign the Lady Shocks will be competitive in AAC tennis. Tulsa is the highest ranked women's tennis team in the AAC this year. Tulane is also ranked $#48. However, it will be much, much tougher than the Mo Valley. You can forget about the 80+ match conference winning streaks. Those days will be over.

However, I think the Shocks will have tough time maintaining their Top 50 ranking. The Shocks only have 2 Top 50 wins (SMU and Tulsa). SMU has since dropped out of the Top 50 but it is your ranking at the time you play that counts. That means they wil have 8 countable wins against teams not ranked in the Top 50 at the tiime they played them by the end of season.

Probably the best wins they have in addition to SMU and Tulsa are Missouri (now ranked #46), Cornell, South Alabama and K-State. So our other 4 countable wins will have to come from among UMKC, North Texas and our 7 Valley opponents. North Texas is probably the best of that bunch. All the Shocks have left on their schedule are Valley teams so we will have to count 2 or 3 of our Valley wins in our countable matches which will no doubt drag our ITA average down and out of the Top 50.

If this all sounds like gobbledy-gook then you can check this out. You'll have fun.

BTW, while I think our men's team can be competitive in the AAC they will have an even tougher row to hoe. Five AAC men's teams are ranked in the Top 50. USF (26), Tulane (28), UCF (31), Memphis (33) and SMU (36). This is a huge contrast from Mo Valley men's tennis which is an endagered species.

The Lady Shocks extended their winning streak over MVC opponents to 83 matches with a 7-0 whitewashing of Drake today.

Drake had only 5 players available to day so they had to forfeit the 3rd flight doubles matchup and the 6th flight singles matchup. Gabriela Porubin played in the 1st flight doubles but sat out the singles.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Wichita State women's tennis team picked up its third sweep of an MVC opponent this year, downing Drake 6-0 this afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The win extends WSU's winning streak against Valley foes to 83 matches.

Things will be much tougher and much better for the Lady Shocks in the AAC next year.

The Lady Shocks finsih off the regular season tomorrow at the Coleman Tennis Center with 2 Valley matches.

They play Illinois State at 9:00 am. Not sure why so early and it will be chilly with temps at are a little below 50 and north winds at 16 mph. Not sure who gets credit for this scheduling. A parting gift from the Valley perhaps.

They play Bradley at 1:00 pm and the weather will only be marginally better at that point.

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State women's tennis team looks to remain perfect in MVC play as they close out the regular season with Illinois State and Bradley on Sat., April 22 at the Coleman Tennis Complex.

Not sure whether the Illinois State match will start on time or not. However, according to the lineups listed on the live stats page Illinois State is only fielding a team of 4 players today. Meaning they will forfeit 1 of the 3 doubles matches and 2 of the 6 singles matches.

Gabriela Porubin and Fatima Buzhukova won the #1 doubles 6-3 which because of the forfeit at the #3 doubles clinched the double point for the Shocks. The #2 doubles wasn't played.

It looks like Illinois State's #4 player withdrew trailing 0-3 in the 1st set. That concession combined with the forfeits at #5 and #6 singles made the score 4-0 and cinched the match for the Shockers.

Interesting situation. Not sure if this situation was attributable to injuries or illness. Illinois State was 5-1 in Valley play coming in so this certainly is not a normal (no pun intended) situation.

Looks like they are going to go head and play out the #1, #2 and #3 singles.

The Lady Shocks finished off the Redbirds 7-0 in the morning match and duplicated that result with a 7-0 sweep of Bradley as the Lady Shocks won their 9th consecutive MVC Regular Season Title and extended their winning streak over Valley opponents to 86 consecutive matches

The Shockers will seek their 9th consecutive Valley Tournament Championship and the auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament on April 28-30 in Normal, Illinois.

The Missouri Valley Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are being held Friday, Satruday and Sunday in Normal, IL.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Looking at the weather forecast play will most likely be moved indoors.

The Lady Shocks, the 13 seed have won 86 consecutive matches against Valley competition and are the heavy favorites.

The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It would be a major upset if that is not the Shocks. Hopefully, the Ladies will finish their run of Valley domination in style.

                          2016-17 Post Season Awards

In a clear sign of the dominance of women's tennis in the MVC Wichita State on All-Conference Honors in all 6 signles positions and in 2 out the 3 doubles positons.

Coach Colin Foster is the Coach of the Year for the 5th time and the 4th consecutive year.

Shocker Junior Giulia Guidetti is the MVC Player of the Year.

Congratulations to all but get ready for a much tougher challenge in the AAC.

A Shocker win in this weekends MVC Touranment would be the Shockers 9th consecutive Valley Tournament Championship breaking the record they currently share with Missouri State's swimming and diving team. Of course, the Shocks have already won their 9th consecutive regualr season tennis championship. Not sure why that doesn't count.
